We’re catching up on TVC reissues! The Return Of The Jedi Saelt-Marae reissue doesn’t look all that different from its original release. However, there are some changes here. This figure also has the distinction of being the only TVC 2.0 figure that received a re-release. Hasbro got it out to collectors again to celebrate Return Of The Jedi 40. We took the time to summarize all the new details for you by producing an all-new 68-image gallery complete with comparison shots and a breakdown of what separates the 2019 version from the 2023 reissue in the Collector Notes. See this impressive figure updated in our RDRs now! There’s more difference here than you may realize.

Welcome to another entry in our The Vintage Collection: The Ninety Six column. Hasbro recently committed to collectors that they will be “focusing” on characters in The Vintage Collection that fall under “The Ninety Six” banner. If you’re new to this, it means that there needs a modern counterpart for every classic Kenner figure. Between 2020 and 2021, Hasbro’s made an admirable effort by focusing on these characters. But there is more work to be done, and we’ll figure out where we are step by step. Today we assess Yak Face.

1985 THE POWER OF THE FORCE Yak Face: Trilogo Update

In 1984, new packaging for Star Wars figures was introduced for the European market. A cost containment initiative, the new packaging sported three languages of the Return Of The Jedi logo for a “one size fits all” approach. Although a “three-logo” design was created for The Power Of The Force line (as evidenced on some ‘boxed’ toys), it wasn’t carried over to the basic figure line’s card design. They continued to use the three Return Of The Jedi logos instead. Although the word “Trilogo” is found nowhere on the packaging, the term is universally adopted by all Star Wars collectors to describe this line of figures.

We are finishing the Trilogo line up with the final 15 The Power Of The Force Kenner figures, and there weren’t any coins provided with them. Today we revisit Yak Face. The Trilogo version has a darker wash. See the full card art and additional notes by revisiting 1985’s THE POWER OF THE FORCE Yak Face figure HERE.

It’s the ides of March, but we’ve got nothing but good news to share. Hasbro released the most-perfect item for all Star Wars collectors. It’s finally in our possessions now. And as if in almost perfect serendipity: today is our 3,583rd review. The “83” represents 1983, the year of Return Of The Jedi. And the “35” represents the number of years it took Hasbro to announce that they would make Jabba’s Sail Barge (The Khetanna) in The Vintage Collection from the release of the film (2018).

Over 6,000 of you have already checked out our review, and between the New Acquisitions (currently comments) page and the RDR page, we have accumulated nearly 800 comments. If you haven’t left your two cents, be sure to do so! Also, the revised gallery now exceeds 170 images! We added new images including the Sarlacc Pit among others for you to enjoy. Please be sure to check out the updated review!

HasLab Exclusive Yak Face Auction Ends Right Below $400!

We’ve been keeping a close watch on the HasLab Jabba’s Sail Barge Yak Face figure. This auction ended at $381.88. This means he only paid $118.12 for The Khetanna. I am pretty confident that we’ll see auction topping off anywhere between $500-$750 in the future, once word continues around the community that this figure exists. They should be shipping for us all soon. I hope you’ll enjoy yours without any worries over aftermarket value.

Here we go! It’s time to look carefully at The Vintage Collection wave 20, the wave that should have begun the line’s relaunch! You saw our sneak peeks at Saelt-Marae and Klaatu (Skiff Guard) figures, but tonight we have the rest of Wave 20 for you to check out! The Scarif Stormtrooper is more different than we first realized. His base armor is a little more yellow, and it appears that the dirt deco is differently placed. Princess Leia Organa (Boushh) is, of course, stellar and the best version we have of her now. Yes, that dang thermal detonator is permanently affixed to her left hand, but you’re just going to have to deal with it because the “photorealistic” technology is terrific. (Remember, these are high-resolution images, and you’re going to see every imperfection. Don’t let it taint your appreciation of her! By the way, this should have been the first wave of the relaunched The Vintage Collection. I think things would be very different right now had that been the case. Don’t forget t leave your thoughts about these figures in the comments!

Saelt-Marae is the MOST-PERFECT action figure Hasbro has produced in a VERY LONG time. I am so blown away by this figure that I went above and beyond for you tonight. Firstly, the review is DONE. See why you’ll need MULTIPLES of this figure for your collection. Secondly, I was curious to see how Saelt-Marae compared to the many other Jabba’s Palace aliens Kenner and Hasbro produced throughout the years. So there are almost 50 ADDITIONAL images comparing Saelt-Marae (Yak Face) to other figures from Jabba’s Palace or the Battle of Carkoon. Please leave your thoughts in the comments in the review. I want to know what you think of this stunning figure! ENJOY!

Yakety Yak, I'm Talking Back, Hasbro!

I just noticed a small issue with the HasLab exclusive Yak Face figure that is arriving in 2019. As a vintage purist, I want my modern counterparts to be as accurate as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly appreciated the updated image on the card back for Ponda Baba (Walrus Man), but I still want that “sketch-enhanced” version too. Look carefully at the HasLab mock-up figure of Yak Face, and then look at the original Kenner figure? Do you notice something different? (It’s NOT the figure.)

ONE WEEK REMAINS For Jabba's Sail Barge Backing

I can’t look! We’re in danger of crashing our hopes and dreams! From the day Hasbro announced the exclusive Yak Face figure premium add-on for Jabba’s Sail Barge, nearly 1000 more of you had backed it. While I feel the vehicle itself is worthy of the $500, I also hope Hasbro does whatever they can in this FINAL WEEK to make the rest of you back it too. JTA and others have provided some excellent (and cheap) ideas, Hasbro. Also, Hasbro, feel free to remove the 5000 minimum reserve. We will all look the other way. 🙂

Jedi Temple Archives was invited to an exclusive Google Hangout session with Hasbro earlier today. We partnered with Star Wars Action News and our pals at Bantha Skull to ask a series of burning questions we had about the first HasLab campaign. The Hasbro Team talked about the recently revealed painted Jabba’s Sail Barge prototype and exclusive Yak Face figure. Then we were offered the opportunity to ask the Hasbro Team our questions, one at a time, by each fan site represented until the Q&A time expired. Finally, Hasbro gave us an intimate look at the painted Jabba’s Sail Barge with close-ups and verbally described its many unique features. We’d like to thank Hasbro for taking time out of their day to do this Google Hangout session with us, and we appreciate Litzky PR for coordinating it. They also have provided NEW and EXCLUSIVE images of some of the finer details of this beautiful vessel. Click through for more!

Well, Hasbro has made this deal sweeter than bringing back The Vintage Collection. Folks on the fence: THIS should be your only reason to #backthebarge now. This exclusive POTF 85 version of Yak Face will only be available with the HasLab campaign. The standard release is coming on a Return Of The Jedi card back. This should be reason enough to support this item. This figure alone will go for $500 and more on the aftermarket. 5000 units (or so) of this exclusively packaged figure is a significant win for all collectors. (Our friends at Bantha Skull made this exact suggestion. I am glad to see it come to fruition.)
