Detailed Visual Analysis

(Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot

General Analysis

I will just come out and say it. The (Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot is one of my top three favorite Kenner action figures. There seems to be something extra special about characters in the Star Wars universe who are colored in yellows and oranges. Not only did the (Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot uniform have both colors, but the vehicle is orange too. It wasn’t just his uniform that made him an excellent action figure. The fact that he came with two accessories was a great deal to bear too. Perhaps his communications device pushed him beyond the limits of the other figures in the line. But I think the combination of parts between the figure, its accessories, and also the packaging (as well as the mystery of the character) all worked together in overtime to produce a standout action figure. With some great help received from a reader, I am more convinced than ever that we do not have a proper modern counterpart to the (Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot action figure. Sure, Hasbro produced two fantastic current versions, but they each possess details not inherent in the prop used for the film. It’s probably most accurate to state that the more precise figure that closely matches the prop used in The Empire Strikes Back (both in color and upper-body design) the pack-in figure to the 1996 Galoob Micro Machines Action Fleet – Bespin Twin Pod Cloud Car. The figure from THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY COLLECTION is very close to the Micro Machines version, but Hasbro would have to tweak a few things in addition to applying new colors before matching it to the film prop accurately.

Hasbro's Most Definitive Modern Counterpart: Although close, there is technically no definitive modern counterpart to the vintage Kenner (Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot. Elements of 2004's OTC Cloud Car Pilot (OTC #19) figure and 2010's TVC (Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot (VC11) figure have elements that are close, but not wholly accurate.
