We all can recall the grueling wait for the Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) figure. He never came in The Force Awakens line. But after many promises by Hasbro that he was getting developed in multiple formats (which made the collecting community wary), their claims came true with the launch of the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] line look. One of those figures is Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) from the Force Link line. He has now been slightly tweaked, repainted and given new Force Link 2.0 technology (that still doesn’t work as of this review’s publishing) and released alongside a couple of other favorites and new characters for the Star Wars [Solo] line look launch. If you have the previous figure, you have this one too. While we wish we could confirm whether the Force Link dialogue is the same, we’re pretty confident that Hasbro wouldn’t develop a new line for the same figure (despite its small differences). As you probably know well by now, Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) comes with five points of articulation. The paint operations are still weak, and he still looks like a bunch of other actors besides Mark Hamill. We suppose the likeness issues of this figure will never get addressed. We find that disappointing.

While the anticipation for this Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) a year ago has killed our once unbridled desire for it, the delivery didn’t meet expectations. Dare we say it wasn’t worth the wait? Many Star Wars fans discovered that the treatment of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi went against their expectations of the character. So, a re-release of Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) may not have been the wisest decision. You know the drill here. The 5POA line is exactly what it’s called. These figures are the simplest of all Hasbro action figures. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) comes with a ball-socket head, two swivel shoulders, and two swivel hips. As a character who wears thick robes, Hasbro split them into two and created faux legs for the action figure. We have to wonder, however, what the point of all that was when you couldn’t pose these simple action figures in any meaningful way. You cannot recreate these figures walking, leaping, running or anything else. So again, what’s the point here? The paint operations are disappointing. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) has gray hair thank goodness, but his eyes are distorted, and we have found imperfections throughout the figure that makes us believe the production of these figures was somewhat rushed.

Also, we’re not crazy about the style of his uniform, but this is moot at the point obviously. As briefly seen in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) also come with right cybernetic hand. Sadly, Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) doesn’t come with any meaningful accessories. He doesn’t come with his lightsaber. He doesn’t have a blaster. And he doesn’t come with anything specifically new from Episode VIII. Surely Hasbro could have packed another porg with this action figure so fans could build their porg armies, right? He does, however, come with a removable cloak. It has been cast in a rather soft, rubbery plastic that has some give and tenderness. It’s easy to wrap around the figure and remove as needed. But overall it doesn’t bring much to this action figure, and we find it disappointing that he is so lightly accessorized. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) was one of the most popular action figures in the entire first wave of the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] line. We don’t feel he will have a repeat performance in the Star Wars [Solo] line. Still, collectors who aren’t even into the new Sequel Trilogy are likely going to pick up this figure. But after Luke’s performance in The Last Jedi, we’re not sure how many people are buying it.
