SW Collecting Story Of The Year: "Cancelled" Legacy Collection [2] Hits Retail!

Posted by Paul | May 14, 2015 at 06:05 PM ET

Well. Perhaps the strangest Star Wars collecting anomaly has come to the surface. Our friends at Rebelscum.com have broken what we may consider the biggest collecting news of the year (well, maybe until The Force Awakens comes out). It took us a few days to digest it as well, but Legacy Collection [2] Droid Factory production figures have been found at retail in the USA. There is a corporation called Calendar Holdings which possess mall stores entitled Go! Games & Toys. They're quite rare across the country, but if you utilize their Store Locator, you might find one near you. Aside from a few rare sets of production samples, it was believed up to this point that none of these card backs and figures went into production. Keep in mind that these are NOT the Amazon.com exclusive figures. These are the real deal that were meant to be the basic figure line of 2013 before it was cancelled. (Click through for more details and images....)

I amazingly was able to find a store sort of near me that had five figures in stock. Go! Games & Toys are NOT receiving complete case assortments unfortunately. It is unknown how many Legacy Collection [2] figures have been produced or if other retailer outlets will get them, although we have seen comments that Five Below may be getting these too. However, there is not confirmation or proof of that yet. Because these are officially out now, we will be adding them to our Research Droids Reviews and Visual Guides. Interestingly, we haven't found any figure numbers on them (like BDXX for exmample).

It amazes us how the penny-wise pound foolish principle applies here. It's now obvious that Hasbro expended the time, energy and money to produce these figures. And these apparently have been sitting in a warehouse for almost two years (it's NUTS). It made sense to do this? Why not just offer these 12 figures as a full retailer exclusive and then start The Black Seres line with wave 3? We wanted Droid Factory so much more than TBS anyway. (It's so frustrating!) None of this makes sense. One thing is for sure. If these are as rare as we fear they might be, then these may just be the rarest modern Star Wars figures to date. But don't hold us to that.

Here are the twelve (12) figures that make up this collection:

Sun Fac [FA-4 (Count Dooku's Pilot Droid) head] - released on alternate card in Amazon.com exclusive
Battle Droid [FA-4 (Count Dooku's Pilot Droid) body] - released on alternate card in Amazon.com exclusive
