Q and A of the Day: Day 72

Posted by Paul | July 29, 2014 at 07:01 PM ET

Welcome to our next Q and A of the Day post! This column will be published daily, weekly, monthly, or just based on how many questions I get emailed – but no more than one a day. Feel free to send in your questions and I will put them in the queue. Click through for Q and A of the Day: Day 72. Topic: Were your underwear soiled? Mine weren't....

Q: Hi Paul. Like most collectors, I am hoping for something to get excited about. With SDCC now over, I am left thinking that for the first season in a long time, there are no REALLY cool sought after Exclusives on the horizon for the Christmas push. I had hoped to hear about something TVC exclusive from Amazon or Target or Walmart or TRU, but ZIP! It looks like TBS has a few things exclusive: TRU Endor set [lame rehash], TRU Cantina Showdown 6” [yawn], Walmart Rebels Falcon [static], Target Shadow Trooper & Speederbike [oh well], Walgreens Prototype Fett. Have I missed anything? Nothing for Amazon this year after 3 great ones last year? Thanks for the great work! (Frank)

A: There are no other exclusives announced at this moment, aside from the "Jabba's Rancor" set that our friends at Rebelscum.com revealed. And that isn't even an official announcement yet as we haven't heard it from Hasbro, nor have any images of it leaked out. Hasbro's plans significantly changed from the schedule they had in motion at SDCC. Distribution, changes in products and new directions have set Hasbro into a spin. And they have revealed to us that they're reluctant to make any huge figure announcements until things start improving at retail because nothing is getting out the way it should.

While SDCC was not "need new underwear" for me, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. I thought The Black Series 6" line was mind-blowing. A 6" Wampa? Come one folks! That's amazing! Also, our very own "Hasbro Secrets Revealed" article after Toy Fair came true in many ways (i.e the 6" Tauntaun and rider). I am in the middle of working up an article comparing what has been rumored versus announced. JTA has revealed quite a lot and I think that has taken a lot of the surprise out of SDCC for people. I believe that had a lot of people less than impressed. But it was exciting when we revealed it, no? (I guess we'll just have to hold back and not reveal anything new when we find out, huh?) But back to my original point, I think SDCC was encouraging. It was HORRIFIC the previous two years and Celebration Europe was even worse. I think Hasbro stepped it up and I hope they keep moving with the same increasing momentum. More will be revealed at NYCC and JTA will be present for that, so hang tight and let's all start praying that the originally planned announcement for SDCC finally get revealed for NYCC. And stay tuned for our SDCC recap report.
