C-3PO (With Ewok Throne)

Battle of Endor

originally constructed by: Anakin Skywalker

best friend: R2-D2

blown to pieces: at least twice

No one was more surprised than C-3PO by the sudden manifestation of godlike powers brought on by the golden droid's frustration at being unable to convince the Ewoks to free his friends. Then his sudden short, Force-induced flight around the village drove the superstitious Ewoks into a panic. After that, he was able to make his lack of interest in a delicious meal made up of Han, Luke, and Chewbacca fully understood.

During the Revenge Of The Sith line, Hasbro made what could be considered their best version of C-3PO yet. There were some aesthetic differences between this Prequel Trilogy version of C-3PO and his Original Trilogy counterpart, but a few tweaks would make this sculpt interchangeable for both. And that’s essentially what Hasbro did to make a very cool rendering of C-3PO based on his appearance in Return Of The Jedi. Likely to remain one of the best version of C-3PO for years to come, the C-3PO With Ewok Throne action figure is first and foremost an incredible value for your dollar. Not only do we get what can be loosely considered and all-new figure (not really – but there are a ton of updates here), we also get a wonderful accessory that comes partially disassembled (or partially assembled if you're glass "half full")in the packaging of the Ewok throne. It’s really mind boggling anymore how Hasbro manages to incorporate such large accessories with their basic figures (especially when so many things are cost prohibitive), but let’s be honest. Would we have it any other way?

C-3PO is a retool (amongst other things) of 2005’s ROTS C-3PO (III 18) figure. The entire upper body with removable head and arms was carried forward but everything below this is an all-new sculpt. New legs with ball-jointed like features (not really) are present so he’s able to sit in the throne. This double-jointed feature is new to the basic figure line and it works perfectly for C-3PO. C-3PO is now shorter than the 2005 figure, but this is to be expected when new parts are created and added to existing sculpts. Hasbro also for the first time added hinge-jointed knees to also help assist with easy seating in the Ewok throne. C-3PO's arms could have really used some additional retooling to add additional articulation, but this is the best we’ve got for now. You will probably be interested to know that three unique versions of C-3PO exist for this sculpt. The hip joints and the hinged knee joints were left unpainted in the first version. Hasbro then corrected this by coloring the hip joints and the left knee joint gold and the right knee joint silver. But for some strange reason Hasbro forgot to paint the eyes on the head (which makes it look like a 1978 vintage figure). This was then quickly corrected (most never saw this variation) and the head returned with the eyes painted on his face.

The Ewok throne that C-3PO comes with is a marvel. It is excellently designed and is quite simple to put together. It actually looks like real wood (albeit too shiny) and we're truly impressed with Hasbro's craftsmanship here. Once assembled it is difficult to find the connection points thanks to great engineering of this piece. The throne is primarily cast in brown plastic, but the backing and seat of the chair are painted with a subtle but excellent looking paint operations that should really impress you. C-3PO fits absolutely perfectly in his throne and it’s literally one of the best interacting figure and accessory combinations we have seen in a very long time. What’s more, the chair comes with two very long carrying posts that are curved on the ends so you can choose two random Ewoks to carry him to the Ewok village. How nice is that? Is this the consummate C-3PO action figure? We would have to say absolutely not. But it’s a great start for an even better future C-3PO action figure. And to give credit where credit is due, we’d have to admit that this is probably the most perfect action figure for the Ewok throne. It’s a great little set here. We’d suggest not missing out on it.
