Purge Trooper (Phase II Armor) - TBS [P4] - Six Inch Figures (OWK07)

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set years after the climactic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced the corruption of his friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned Sith Lord Darth Vader.

We’re figuring out how Hasbro plans the characters they will make for The Black Series 6-inch line. They comb the latest Disney Star Wars sources looking for characters that they’ve created tooling already and then figure out how little they can do with regards to new tooling to create a new character. Well, that’s what it feels like, anyway. It’s evident that the Star Wars Hasbro brand is out of money, and it’s been out of money for some time. The Black Series 6-inch line and The Vintage Collection 3.75-inch line are nearly insufferable as of late. They contain not much more than repaints and repacks, and “new” characters come with as little new tooling as possible. It’s a sad state of affairs, and we don’t know how long the collecting community will put up with this nonsense. It’s not like the figures are cheap. They’re not. How is it remotely fair that previously existing figures with a couple of new parts and a new paint job are approaching $30? It’s egregious at best. The Purge Trooper (Phase II Armor) looks pretty cool. In Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, we’re introduced to the latest version of the Purge Trooper, and admittedly, it’s a neat-looking character. Hasbro produced this character as a Walmart exclusive, and it’s everything that collectors should expect. The all-new head sculpt is stellar and captures the on-screen trooper beautifully. And aside from the chronic reuse of the phase II clone trooper buck, it shouldn’t let collectors of this line down. The Purge Trooper (Phase II Armor) has gorgeous red highlights and a blaster rifle that looks amazing when wielded. Overall, you’re probably going to enjoy what Hasbro produced here. But if you’re looking for newness, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
