The standard Imperial Stormtrooper has versatile training and equipment that allows for them to be deployed on a wide variety of environments. Though they are bolstered by Mudtrooper ranks, Stormtroopers still form the backbone of Imperial army action on Mimban.

Hasbro has been getting very good at reusing older sculpts to make brand new figures. The latest example of this is the Stormtrooper (Mimban) characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story. Taking 2013’s TBS [P1] Stormtrooper (#09) figure, they tooled an all-new helmet, developed a beautiful soft-goods cape and repainted the figure with a stunning paint job. The final result is nothing short of brilliant, and this figure has become one of our favorites in the whole 6” range. Hasbro cast the once-clean Stormtrooper figure in an off-white plastic. This helped to create and perhaps accentuate an illusion of filth, dirt, and grime to unprecedented levels. We don’t think we have seen a figure looks this dirty in the Star Wars action figure line to date. Even the older 3.75” Sandtrooper figures didn’t look this filthy. The Stormtrooper (Mimban) figure is a stunning example of how clever paint operations breathe life into an action figure. The Stormtrooper (Mimban) figure is eye-catching, beautiful and awe-inspiring. And he is essentially just a repaint. It’s amazing what a great paint job will do for a Star Wars figure.

Stormtrooper (Mimban) comes with an awesome 28 points of articulation, the same articulation system as the original Stormtrooper (#09) figure. The inclusion of double hinge-jointed elbows and knees allows the figure a range of movement that ball-jointed points cannot achieve. The inclusion of ball-jointed wrists only enhances the movement that is possible with a system of joints this impressive. The molds must be holding up well in the factories in China. We don’t see any issues that parts are worn down or evidence that the details aren’t as crisp. Everything is in place here, and the final results will impress you. As previously mentioned, Hasbro gave the Stormtrooper (Mimban) figure a beautiful soft-goods cape. Instead of poking a hole in it and placing it over the figure’s neck joint, Hasbro has tied it around the figure’s shoulders and bundled the strands that hang down the figure’ back. It’s an interesting approach, but it works. We weren’t brave enough, however, to remove the cape entirely. It’s probably no big deal to remove and replace on the figure, but it wasn’t a risk we wanted to take.

The Stormtrooper (Mimban) figure comes with a revised E-11 blaster. This means it has a few extra bulky parts. But it also means that the blaster no longer fits into the holster that is part of the Stormtrooper sculpt. We find this unfortunate. Why couldn’t Hasbro retool the holster so that the blaster could fully interact with it? Right now it’s completely useless, so we’re disappointed by that. The Star Wars [Solo] Stormtrooper (Mimban) Force Link 2.0 figure comes with an extra-long blaster rifle. But sadly, Hasbro decided not to include that cool weapon with this collector-focused release. Why would they skimp out on this essential accessory? A Walmart exclusive, collectors are nervous about finding this figure at their local retail location. Walmart is about the worst retailer around, and it has been a chore for collectors to find many important exclusives. And if irony couldn’t be any crueler, Walmart is also getting The Vintage Collection Stormtrooper (Mimban) figure too. (The super-articulated 3.75” version for collectors.) It’s going to be a cruel summer for 2018. Be sure you have backup sources for these figures, because collectors will army build them like there is no tomorrow.
