Plourr Ilo and Dllr Nep are X-wing pilots in Rogue Squadron. Plourr is a princess who joins the Rebel Alliance to fight the Empire. The Sullustan pilot Dllr Nep takes part in several dangerous missions during his time with the elite squadron.
Did Hasbro really inadvertently release a Star Wars product that would be objectionable to some kids and collectors? Well, apparently Walmart thought so and as a result they nixed it from their exclusive Comic Packs line up for 2010. It was an initial shame because it is clearly the best set of what would have been three (3) sets originally planned. But retail vulture Entertainment Earth (as well as other online retailers) jumped at the chance to grab this "almost canceled" set and it was released very shortly after the two Walmart ones made it to store shelves. Complementing the previous 2009 TLC Ibtisam/Nrin Vakil Comic Packs set (also a Walmart exclusive) very nicely, we get two more X-wing fighter pilots that have super-articulation and nice paint operations. Additionally, both figures have new and wonderful head sculpts. While you may be getting wearisome over all the X-wing pilots that have been making their way into your collection, there is no denying that it seems that we can never have enough. And since Hasbro is picking characters with diversity, it makes your X-wing Rogue Squadron pilot army even more distinguished.
Plourr Ilo is quite a pleasure. Her likeness is spot on and we have to admit that it is very cool to get a bald-headed female in the Star Wars line. She has a Ripley feel to her and she definitely has the tenacity to match. She is cast from the female X-wing pilot body that was first introduced to us in the Evolutions line so you know you are getting a great action figure here. The hands seem to have become a little misshapen from the apparent overuse of the mold, so she can't hold her gun that well. And aside from a little bit of a loose helmet, Plourr Ilo delivers positive results overall. Dllr Nep is perhaps the more exciting figure in the set. It is not secret we love Sullustan pilots and we get another flavor with this release. This Sullustan has human/flesh tones of a different shade than what we have been used to seeing. But he looks great with his solid black eyes and the X-wing pilot uniform suits him very well. As a nice accent, Hasbro has included his goatee and it makes him look very distinguished. Dllr Nep utilizes the 2006 VTSC Luke Skywalker: X-wing Pilot figure body so he is also super-articulated. The two figures look great in every way and we are especially fond of their unique helmets. This is one of the better Comic Packs sets of the year and we really wish Walmart would have carried it so we wouldn't have to pay the inflated price for it online.
So what was so objectionable in the included comic book? Well, we read and reread it and we are not entirely sure. We may have to resort to asking Hasbro the exact reason (if they are able to tell us). But if we were to make a stretch here, Plourr Ilo makes inferences to "unspeakable" things being done to her sisters and there are some minimal uses of light profanity in the text. Still, you need to look deeply to interpret what exactly they are talking about and we could be very off here. Hasbro has done their due diligence to warn parents of the possible objectionable material because this exclusive has a warning sticker on it. This is unbelievable, isn't it? We respect Hasbro's concern to warn parents, but we think is overkill. We don't think kids are buying the Comic Packs anyhow, so we think Hasbro has been over-cautionary here. Then again, it is perhaps better to err on the side of caution in these days. But despite the controversial storyline, Hasbro created another set of winning action figures. And we encourage you not to fear the hype about this set. The reason to buy this is for two new and exciting action figures. And this set definitely provides this to collectors.
