Rey's Speeder (Jakku): For quick transportation across the junk-strewn dunes of Jakku, Rey relies on her old salvaged speeder.

Rey (Scavenger): Rey is a resilient survivor, a scavenger toughened by a lifetime of dealing with the cutthroats of the harsh desert world of Jakku.

Wow. Hasbro has impressed us once again. And that’s a testimony to how well Hasbro has created The Black Series [Phase III] Rey's Speeder (Jakku)/Rey (Scavenger) vehicle set it’s from a film that we can barely tolerate. We have said it before so we will say it again. Hasbro’s dedication to producing fine toy collectibles like this help everyone to appreciate the films so much more than just seeing the film alone. This principle has set the Star Wars toy line so much higher than all other toys lines. George Lucas knew the power of toy marketing and Hasbro seems to be getting back to basics, even if these toys are coming a little bit too late in the Star Wars branded line. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens contained many things that were reinvented A New Hope props. Take for instance Rey’s Speeder (Jakku). It’s Luke’s landspeeder turned on its side. It’s nearly the same color too. Hasbro carefully recreated it’s similar design and produced an item for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line that is sure to impress both critics and fans of the scale. It brings forth exquisite tooling, divine paint operations and basic functionality that offers collectability as well as entertaining play value. This set feels sturdy and will hold up even during aggressive playtime. But we imagine the bulk of people buying this set will be adult men somewhere with the 25-50 year old range. We don’t picture them abusing this item at all. If anything it will collect dust on a display shelf high above where the kids can reach. No matter your stance on the 6” line, if you find that you can’t be impressed with Rey's Speeder (Jakku)/Rey (Scavenger) you’re just not being a balanced person. At the very least, if you're a fan of the mechanics of Star Wars vehicles, Hasbro did a noteworthy job in recreating the inner workings as seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Incredible Cross-Sections book. See what we mean HERE.

Rey’s Speeder (Jakku) is as close to perfection as our eyes can see. It’s properly scaled, has beautiful coloring (although not completely screen accurate) and can accommodate the included Rey (Scavenger) figure that accompanies this set. What’s more, Hasbro included an “invisible” display stand that allows the vehicle to be tilted to give the illusion that it flies through an infinite array of planes as it makes its way across the desolate Jakku desert. Rey's Speeder (Jakku) has some weight to it and feels like you get a satisfying amount of plastic for the price. We would still like to see a little more weight here, but it certainly is enough. The vehicle comes with an incredible amount of detail. The handlebars and foot pedals move via swivel articulation. And there are quite a few hatches that open up for either storage purposes or to access the simple but large engine of the vehicle. The popsicle shaped speeder is loaded with textured paint operations. You’re going to find dents, chips, dirt and weathered panels that bring the vehicle to life. There isn’t one ounce of holdback here and Hasbro should be commended for the incredible work they’ve done here. 2017 finally has brought us something worthwhile in The Black Series 6” vehicle range. Of note, Hasbro has continued the vehicle numbering that was started with the hugely successful but ludicrous First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter, so it looks like we technically were wrong in our belief that Hasbro would never make another large vehicle again. But both the X-34 Landspeeder/Luke Skywalker and Rey's Speeder (Jakku)/Rey (Scavenger) are a fraction of the size of that first release, so we may have not been that far in missing the mark.

It's sad to say that the best Rey 6” figure is one that covers up her face, but it’s true. Hasbro has developed a beautiful Rey (Scavenger) 6” figure to interact with her speeder and we truly feel it’s the best versions of her to date. She is an all-new figure and her articulation system couldn’t be more interactive with the speeder. She sits in the driver’s seat beautifully. She is a combination of molded plastic and soft-goods and nothing encumbers her ability to sit in a seated position steering the speeder. She also comes healthily accessories. She comes with her signature staff (which can also be stowed above her collection net that hangs on the side of the speeder), a removable collar (which is a nice feature here), a removable belt, backpack and a removable mask. Her goggles are not removable, nor is her head wrappings, but we believe this has a great deal to do with how awesome this action figure of her looks. If there is any criticism we have for the figure it’s that the tan is too light when you compare it to the stills from the film. She is super-poseable and looks fantastic on or off of the speeder. Also, her paint operations are very simple, but they’re also very well done too. We have very little to complain about in the entire Rey's Speeder (Jakku)/Rey (Scavenger) package. But how about the MSRP? Well, it’s not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but we still think it’s a tad too high. Rey's Speeder (Jakku)/Rey (Scavenger) has a retail price set at $59.99. We think this is actually a fair price, but $49.99 would have been perfect. That would break down to $20 for the figure and $30 for the vehicle. But Hasbro could have gouged us a whole lot more. They didn’t.
