Clone troopers are outfitted with additional gear when a battle calls for them to leave their ships and venture into the vacuum of space for an extended period of time. Wearing specialized breathing equipment, they can move through space to board enemy ships for attack or seizure.

Way before The Clone Wars television show was ever a thing, we quickly learned that clones of a certain battalion are known for their unique color flashes and armor designs. It really wasn’t unexpected that this same trend would continue in the show. Already we’re seeing some very cool Clone Troopers and Hasbro has been diligent about getting them out in the unexpectedly popular The Clone Wars toy line. A new season means a new line look and instead of blue everywhere, collectors are seeing a revised red packaging scheme that looks as beautiful as the figures housed inside of the packaging. A popular figure in the first phase of The Clone Wars line was the Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) figure. Hasbro is offering us another chance to army build this character as it is part of the first wave of The Clone Wars [Red] line. Certainly not the coolest name for an action figure, this figure makes up for what it doesn't have in the name by what it offers as a toy. Actually part of the Wolfpack Squad which is from the 104th Battalion in The Clone Wars, this action figure has a lot of cool accessories that, when broken down, show an intricately detailed Clone Trooper underneath the extra parts. Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) really delivers a unique perspective on the Grand Army of the Republic as well as some of the events that transpired during the rich history of The Clone Wars we’re seeing get unfolded.

In some of the earliest scenes in the first season, we got a glimpse at one of these specialized units and they were clearly a staple of assisting the Jedi in space. Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) is for the most part a simply repainted figure. While he has quite a few extra details attached to his armor, there isn't anything different about the mold itself. Based on 2008’s TCW [B] Clone Trooper (No. 5) figure, Hasbro tooled new parts to give this figure layers of depth, character and versatility which is really any collectors’ dream when it comes to action figures. The most intricate detail can be found on his helmet which when looked at carefully imitates the face of some larger animal. It’s of course meant to be a wolf, but it does have some feline qualities. These details enforce the fact that this figure is part of a defensive team set out to secure the best outcomes for the Jedi and end the war. Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) is mostly white, save for dark reddish brown and/or maroon flashes of color on the lower extremities of the armor as well as the shoulders. The shoulders also have a striped pattern that looks really sharp as well. Hasbro ensured that this fine detail was captured flawlessly on the figure. Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) comes with a removable backpack that attaches to a hole on the removable vest (which also houses a holster for his DC-17 blaster). The jet backpack can launch a projectile.

Hasbro also included a removable breathing mask (no doubt required for the atmospheric air quality) which is intricately detailed and nicely painted. It solidifies the “outer space” capabilities of his extra gear and we love the option to display this figure with or without his gear. The last accessory is a standard DC-15 blaster rifle. Although Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) is just a repaint of the standard Clone Trooper, it should just prove to us how far a little creativity can go. It also proves that Hasbro are excellent stewards of their tools as they can minimize cost while maximizing the variety of the line. In our opinion, Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) is a necessity for your collection if you are looking to recreate this scene or even if you’re just into building your Clone Trooper armies. Led by Plo Koon, they performed perfectly to the exacting standards of the mission and were an asset to their Jedi leader. And Hasbro has done a beautiful job replicating these characters for the basic figure line. If Hasbro keeps delivering action figures of this quality, they will continue to ensure they leave collectors satisfied. Clone Trooper (With Space Gear) without a doubt brings forth small joys and we are certain that you will feel similarly. And we are sure that we can expect many future offerings that will bring the same feelings for the future. Keep these smart repacks coming!
