Wicket W. Warrick battles Biker Scouts when the Ewoks join forces with the Rebels to take control of the Empire's shield generator on Endor.

The controversy seems unending in the Saga Legends/Mission Series range of figures. Some collectors are unable (and perhaps unwilling) to accept that five points of articulation are the norm now and may overlook what some pretty nice action figures are. Others have valid points that they just don’t need another of the same character they already have with less articulation even if it is a new sculpt. If you think about this, it all makes sense. There are so many characters from the Saga Legends and Mission Series ranges that are a dime a dozen on eBay and Amazon. Do we need them again with less articulation and inferior paint operations? The problem here is that the sculpts are rather fantastic. It’s hard for hardcore collectors to deny that if Hasbro made The Power Of The Force “2” figures with these quality sculpts that they probably would never be a need to revisit them to make them fresh and new in this day and age. In other words, these new sculpts possess timelessness, despite the simple articulation. We have to agree that this is very true. Both Wicket W. Warrick and Biker Scout may contain some of the most accurate details these characters have ever seen in the basic figure line. And yes, we’d even claim that some of the details are better than those seen in The Vintage Collection or vintage Kenner inspired sub-lines like VOTC and VTSC.

Wicket W. Warrick is simply adorable. We don’t know what collector could easily pass on this figure. The sculpt is flawless and simple. He doesn’t have a removable hood, but we don’t think he needs a removable hood either. He has been posed very statically which is more than fine in this instance. Both of his hands are capable of holding the included spear (which is also nicely sculpted by the way), and although his range of movement is indeed limited, he can hold the spear in many ways that are screen accurate. The paint jobs vary on the Mission Series figures, but we have to state that we’re quite pleased with how well Wicket W. Warrick came out. All of the colors needed and required to make him look just like the onscreen character are well-represented here. There are some areas of sloppiness, but overall we believe that Hasbro has done an admirable job on this Ewok. We would love to see more Ewoks in this scale to see if Hasbro can maintain consistency in both scale and quality. With all of the differing heights of Ewok in Return Of The Jedi, it would be advantageous of Hasbro to master all of these varying heights perfectly. Although this seemingly feckless teddy bear speaks softly and carries a long spear, he can certainly pack a punch (or two) in battle and help the Rebels defeat the Empire during the Battle of Endor.

One type of Imperial that the Ewoks need to be wary of are the Biker Scouts. Hasbro perfectly paired Wicket W. Warrick with an army building Biker Scout figure. As frustrating as this is to admit, the Biker Scout is perhaps one of the nicest and screen-accurate sculpts of this character we have seen in 3.75” scale. Trust us, it pains us to say that, but we fear it’s true. The Biker Scout has a perfect body silhouette. And although the details aren’t accented well because a severe lack of paint operations, the etchings made into the sculpt are nothing short of amazing. Hasbro did great work here in the sculpt. It’s the paint operations that make it feel flat (even though for the most part they have been painted rather cleanly). The Biker Scout comes with the standard blaster pistol and (thank the Maker) there is a functioning ankle holster that works nicely to store it in when not in use. He can hold the blaster well, but his inhibited articulation makes it frustrating (for us at least). If they could enhance the paint operations with greater detail, we believe this would be an extremely successful action figure. Most collectors have expressed their chagrin with the 5POA lines. We aren’t much happier about them, but if Hasbro can keep up this good sculpting and better the paint jobs, these could be rather nice action figures.
