Hasbro’s been moderately faithful about adding creatures into The Vintage Collection. Much to our chagrin, they’re creatures from dreadful Disney Star Wars that no one wants or cares about anymore. But this is the bitter pill we must swallow to get the stuff we’re excited to add to our collections. Howler & Sabine Wren (Peridea) brings a lot of newness to the line, and we’re sure that fans of the Ahsoka Disney+ series will find some use for this set. But it’s overpriced, the creature is boring, and we don’t feel that we needed another Sabine Wren added to the line this quickly. That said, the Howler comes with a decent amount of articulation. It looks like a werewolf with a saddle. Content creators can’t think of anything new and exciting, so they have to borrow from past pop culture to create new characters. The Howler comes with a hinge-jointed jaw, a movable head, and ball-socket limbs that don’t offer much articulation but assist with various poses. The Howler also has ball joints in the front paws and “elbows.” Interestingly, Hasbro included two pre-positioned back legs, allowing you to make the beast lie down or sit up as needed. These are relatively docile creatures and enjoy the company of humans. The toy effectively echoes these sentiments, and it feels like we have a family dog in our collection now. The revised Sabine Wren (Peridea) figure looks different. Hasbro based this figure on the live-action actor. It is well-articulated and well-accessorized, but it DID NOT need to come on a Deluxe card. Everything would have fit inside of a standard bubble. Doesn’t Hasbro realize by now that TVC collectors HATE the Deluxe-sized card? It’s egregious at this point. Sabine comes with a soft-goods poncho. It’s fitted and looks great on the figure. We also get a hilt and a fully lit lightsaber. Additionally, we receive two blaster pistols and an interchangeable head sculpt featuring a helmeted portrait. This set is severely overpriced for what it is. No one wants to drop this kind of money if it isn’t for an Original Trilogy beast. But this is the hand Hasbro dealt to us. We don’t believe this set is without merit, but it will become clearance fodder, and we are certain the interest in this creature set will be tepid at best.
