A hero of the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker was a caring and compassionate Jedi with vast power. But his deep fear of loss was his ultimate downfall – leading him to become the Sith Lord Darth Vader, spearheading the Empire's eradication of the Jedi Order.
It’s refreshing to have Hasbro focus on a collection of action figures that focus on what is critical in the Star Wars timeline: the pathway of Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader, then back to Anakin Skywalker again. Star Wars isn’t about lesbian Sith witches and beta male Jedi. No, it’s about the patriarchy and one man’s path to sin and redemption. And that made George Lucas’ Star Wars so special to countless fans. Thankfully, we can enjoy this angle of Star Wars thoroughly and richly with Hasbro’s The Journey Of Anakin Skywalker (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader/Darth Vader (Redeemed)) Special Action Figure Set. It’s a refreshing look at three critical stops in Anakin’s story, akin to what Hasbro did in the Evolutions line two decades ago. It starts with Anakin Skywalker from The Clone Wars, although the unique costume variation here is specific to Star Wars: Ahsoka. Then, Hasbro presented Anakin Skywalker (as Darth Vader) as the character looked at in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (as well as Star Wars: Ahsoka). And lastly, the set focuses on Darth Vader’s redemption as the character saved Luke Skywalker from certain death at the hands of Emperor Palpatine. The entire set should excite legacy fans because it contains two versions of the character that we’ve been wanting to see updated for quite some time now.
The weakest figure in the set is the Anakin Skywalker figure based on the character from The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Ahsoka. It’s a repaint of 2025’s TVC Anakin Skywalker (VC347) figure. This time, they added a scar across the figure’s right eye and gave it a new soft-goods cape. The cape is a nice addition here. It comes with two elastic straps that hide under the figure’s “armpits,” which hides them from view and gives a nice aesthetic and placement. It has a lovely drape and lows, and the figure’s movements are beautiful. The figure has no new tooling, so it might burn collectors to repurchase it, especially when they own the previous version. We’re happy to see the newness added here and can easily overlook its redundancy in the line. Conversely, perhaps the most exciting addition to this set is the “Darth Vader” figure from Episode III. We long waited for Hasbro to refresh 2010’s TVC Darth Vader [Anakin Skywalker] (VC13) figure. When you compare the figures side by side, you’ll see how dreadful the 2010 figure is and how it’s instantly made obsolete thanks to technology and the pure artfulness of the new figure. This Darth Vader figure comes with Sith eyes and borrows the legs of the exact Anakin Skywalker figure included here. The rest of the figure is all-new. Interestingly, it comes with a red lightsaber.
Another fun update here is Darth Vader (Redeemed). Its purpose here is to update 2012’s TVC Darth Vader (VC115) figure. Commonly referred to as the “Emperor’s Wrath” Darth Vader, the x-ray-like effect on the helmet allows collectors to see Darth Vader’s skull. Unfortunately, Hasbro didn’t take the same time and energy to add additional details, like the x-ray effect through the torso and arms or the bionic stub that sticks out from the severed hand. Instead of purple, the Force lighting effects are blue, which we feel works better here. But of course, the best part of the figure is the buck Hasbro used. Based on 2023’s TVC Darth Vader (Death Star II) (VC280) figure, the figure has a glorious articulation system. It possesses fine details that proportionate every body part for the best realism possible. We will unlikely ever see another single-carded release of this character boasting the VC115 number. However, Hasbro may re-release ALL THREE figures in this Special Action Figure Set at some point. Habitually, they’ve done this for most action figures first released in these three-packs. Overall, we’re pretty pleased with The Journey Of Anakin Skywalker (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader/Darth Vader (Redeemed)) Special Action Figure Set. It’s a bit pricy, but it works exceptionally well overall.
