Emerging from his darkest days stronger and more hopeful than ever, Obi-Wan Kenobi looks toward the future and fulfilling his obligation to steward the Skywalker legacy.
Hasbro spends too much time on new characters from the Disney Star Wars universe. Collectors of The Vintage Collection are primarily interested in Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy characters, so they’re doing a disservice by ignoring the older guard of Star Wars. The universally panned Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series didn’t bring anything interesting to the Star Wars timeline. Still, whenever Lucasfilm makes new Star Wars content, it’s expected that collectors will get the opportunity to add new items to their collections in the form of action figures from Hasbro, at the very least. Although it took them some time to get them out, Hasbro made a flurry of new characters from Star Wars: Ahsoka and Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, produced and now released to collectors. And in 2025, we already have three waves of figures under our belt, and that’s not too shabby. The all-new Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Legend) figure is a lovely addition to The Vintage Collection. However, we’re not sure how many collectors will decide to add this figure to their collections just because the story was terrible and boring and didn’t do much to move forward with the well-respected Star Wars saga. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Legend) isn’t perfect, but it’s close and offers a new perspective to the revered Jedi Master.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Legend) would serve as a fantastic template for an updated Episode II or Episode III Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure. Hasbro has produced so many versions of these iterations of Obi-Wan Kenobi; however, we don’t anticipate them taking additional opportunities to upgrade previous releases. Then again, anything is possible in this hobby. With tweaking the existing costume, a revised portrait, and a few other enhancements, repurposing this existing tooling would be a wise step for Hasbro. But what about THIS figure? We’re already trying to recommend how Hasbro should use this figure to produce others from the George Lucas era of Star Wars, but how does this figure pan out? Well, frankly, it’s a good-looking action figure, albeit imperfect. We appreciate the use of Photo Real deco on the face, but Hasbro slathered on the brown paint for the beard and mustache, and it appears as if Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Legend) is covered in chocolate instead of facial hair. There is no texture or contour in the facial hair at all. Despite this, Hasbro designed a lovely head sculpt for Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Legend). It captures all of the essential features of actor Ewan McGregor, so you know right out of the package this is the character played by the actor.
The rest of the design of the figure is excellent or mostly excellent. The white tunic with the yellow pants is jarring or glaring here. The bottom half of the figure looks yellowed from the elements, but this color transition intentionally reflects the character’s on-screen costume. However, we’re not sure how well it works. For accessories, Hasbro was somewhat generous. We get a removable soft-goods cloak shell that is well-fitted and simple to remove. Then they gave us a perfectly molded hilt and a fully lit lightsaber. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Legend) holds onto both accessories well with both hands. Lastly, we get perfectly fitted goggles. We’re impressed with how well Hasbro made them fit Obi-Wan Kenobi’s head. The packaging is decent as always. We get a lovely thick card and beautiful character photos, but Hasbro’s art team still doesn’t understand how to center the character in the allotted space properly. We don’t know what their issue is. Overall, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Legend) is a fine addition to The Vintage Collection, and we’re sure we may expect this tooling revisited shortly. It would be a waste to abandon it after this release.
