Battle Droids

kashyyyk conquest

considered: powerful expendable hardware

manufacturer: Baktoid Combat Automata

always carry: blaster rifles

The Separatists send in waves of battle droids in their attempt to conquer the strategically important world of Kashyyyk. The droids are painted with special markings to help them blend into the dense jungle foliage. The fierce Wookiee warriors, joined by the formidable Yoda, resist the droid onslaught with all their might.

It’s two for the price of one! Even if you’re not into the Separatists' Battle Droids, how incredible is it that Hasbro has decided to throw two action figures into one package? Granted, these are minimally articulated action figures, but Hasbro has clearly set a precedent now and collectors going forward will come to expect that this will be the ongoing trend. Without a doubt, the included Battle Droids aren’t close to being super-articulated. They will need quite a bit of work before they can be deemed anywhere near definitive. Between the exquisite camouflage paint job and cool accessories, this is a fun, basic figure release that will be difficult to pass up because great value is the driving force here indeed. What’s more, each Battle Droid has a unique camouflage pattern so you really truly get two distinct figures inside. Double bonus! Based on characters created by Hasbro in the Star Wars Unleashed Battle Packs line, these should have been the type of B1 battle droids for the Battle of Kashyyyk.

The Battle Droids have been sourced to Revenge Of The Sith per the packaging, but they're really a brilliant Hasbro concept instead. If we had witnessed more of the Battle of Kashyyyk in Episode III, we probably would have seen Battle Droids with this unique coloring. Hasbro truly made believable and perfect "off screen" characters with this particular release. Clearly designed to pair nicely with the [Kashyyyk] Super Battle Droid (SAGA 061) released in the same wave, the Battle Droids look so fantastic that you'll want to do a double take just to make sure you didn't miss them at some point during Revenge Of The Sith. They've been decorated with dirt and a toned down, yet distinctive camouflage color pattern. Thankfully, they blend in seamlessly with the Kashyyyk terrain and we think Hasbro couldn’t have been more clever in designing them to be part of the Droid Army invasion on Kashyyyk. We do hope Hasbro is able to translate these paint jobs onto better articulated figures.

You may also be interested to know there's a running change with how the dirt has been applied to the Battle Droids. The first versions came with smoother dirt applications while the running change versions have a more bumpy and natural dirt application. Comparison pictures are in the photo gallery so you can see the differences. Repack & Repaint waves are great because they give collectors neat takes on figures that wouldn’t come from Hasbro otherwise. If you’re looking to help out your Battle of Kashyyyk diorama or you’re just a general fan of the Separatists droids, then this action figure two-pack is for you. They only come with one personalized action figure stand, but due to their narrow broadness and the thin “physique,” they can actually be placed comfortably together on it. Whether or not you want two more colorful Battle Droids is really neither here nor there. But best part about the Battle Droids two-pack is with two action figures here and now, the precedent has been set. We bet Hasbro’s protocol won’t change any time soon.
