The store reports and delivery reports are pouring in that the GameStop exclusive Clone Commander Wolffe 6″ figure is arriving! If you haven’t seen this figure up close yet, check our our RDR on it HERE! Clone Commander Wolffe is currently IN STOCK at GameStop.com too if you’re interested! Special thanks to JTA reader cress for this report!
You think we have it bad in the USA when it comes to The Vintage Collection’s Imperial Combat Assault Tank? Friend and JTA reader Jamie D. sends us a report that this gorgeous vehicle has hit his local Canadian Toys R Us store and the MSRP is $119.99. Yikes. The line will not thrive with these ridiculous prices. By the way, see our full review on this amazing vehicle in our RDRs HERE.
If there is a picture perfect example of what is wrong with brick and mortar distribution, it would be these two photos. JTA reader Nathaniel D. from Canada sends us two images from th esame Walmart store in the Toronto area. Click through for more as he explains what’s going on in his area.
Admittedly, there has been little to no reason for me to go on toy runs for longer than I can remember at this point, but I did need something at Walmart today (much to my chagrin) and stopped by the toy aisle. I couldn’t believe what I foubnd. Would you like shelf space with your Resistance Tech Rose figures, Walmart? Curious, I stopped at two more local stores where I witnessed these same overbearing pileups. If you look closely, you will also find Rey figures on significant discount too. Hasbro needs to plan future case assortments carefully, and choose the best characters that will appeal to their customer base. Why must this constantly feel like wash, rinse and repeat with every new Disney Star Wars film release?
BREAKING NEWS! The version of Captain Phasma that should have been available when she was repacked during The Last Jedi is now finally coming as a Toys R Us exclusive (obviously Canada-only at this point). JTA reader Keegan H. found it at his local Ontario store. It remains to be seen what retailer in America will pick up this exclusive. Click the thumbnails below to check out Captain Phasma (Quicksilver Baton).
Sigh. If there were ONE item that 6″ collectors should have supported in full, it would unequivocally be the Dewback and Sandtrooper. 3.75″ super-articulated collectors would die for an update for this. But Walmart has already marked them down to $45, and some have reported lower sale prices. Special thanks to Facebook page 6″ Black Series Collectors for the image.
It’s astounding to me how poorly the Legacy Pack sold across all retail levels. It feels like it sold as badly as the 6″ Special Force TIE Fighter. And now as Toy R Us gets ready to close its doors forever, MORE cases from the warehouse are arriving at 60-%-80% off. It’s the only way to get the 40th anniversary Darth Vader (in the vintage Kenner line look). How did this not sell better than it did? I have never seen something so collector-friendly pile up at retail as this release did. And I have been collecting the modern line since 1995. Again, nothing has piled up like this set in my experience. Hasbro isn’t grabbing the right group of collectors with this stuff.
If you’re fortunate to have a liquidated Toys R Us store still open near you, you might want to check out the latets discounts. My local store had a half dozen Rogue One AT-ACTS in stock and with all of the promotions and discounts in effect it came down to $44.99 before taxes. It was certainly worth that price to secure the exclusive figures that will never be re-released from it.
JTA reader Jamie D. has found the USA TARGET exclusive TBS6 [P3] Gamorrean Guard at Canada’s EB Games shop. He writes “I got lucky and snagged one today (most stores only getting a few, and most went to pre-orders). $44.99 or $40.49 with their loyalty card.” For those of you not aware, these should be hitting the first week in July at TARGET in the USA. As always, you can check out our review on this figure HERE. You can also stalk TARGET’s product page for this item so you can get it when it comes in stock!
We’re thrilled to provide you with exclusive FIRST LOOK images of the Solo: A Star Wars Story line look TIE Fighter. JTA reader Sergio R. has found this product at retail in his home country of Mexico. It has yet to be officially announced by Hasbro, although revealed at an international trade show earlier this year. Check out the images by clicking the thumbnails below.
JTA reader Frank H. has found anew type of Chewbacca mask at his local retailer: a furry one. Check it out, it’s pretty cool. It’s a shame. It feels like this arrived a bit too late as Solo fizzles at the box office.
You’d be silly to ignore the many things about the modern state of collecting that are devastating the line. Examples like collectors waiting as if they’re vultures for Hasbro stuff to go on clearance at Walmart and TARGET. And seeing Toys R Us’ merchandise that was clearanced out by competitors MONTHS ago sit and collect dusts on shelves are just some of the issues that don’t go away. Granted, Toys R Us has been foolish. They never were competitive with promotional prices and their clearance timing was the worst. But, see the image below. While anecdotal, it paints a broad picture of what is wrong with the Star Wars line. I could beat a dead horse here, but it’s clear to say that there is too much focus on certain Star Wars Entertainment that Star Wars fans aren’t supporting and buying. I have similar pile-ups at my local Toys R Us stores, albeit different products, but the same principles apply. Until the Hasbro line gets back to basics, we’re going to continue seeing these trends. And with Toys R Us gone, it means that either less volume will be produced, or the remaining retailers will be overstocked next. And I don’t think Walmart and TARGET will ever buy another bridge again when it comes to Star Wars. Their current stock levels are so low now that it’s almost impossible to find anything new there any way (except for the same repeated figures that shouldn’t have been reissued). It seems the Star Wars line is being forced into online oblivion. I am at a loss how this Titanic can be turned around. Special thanks to JTA Facebook reader Todd L. for the image!
JTA moderator Sjefke is thrilled to find a $5 Rathtar set at his local Walmart on clearance, but this speaks volume. It speaks volumes how poorly case assortments are treated. How this item was repackaged for Force Link 2.0 is beyond comprehension. A simple visit to any retail establishment would have proven that it was the last set to repackage. Here we are in June 2018, and both Force Link 1.0 and Force Link 2.0 sets are piling up. They might as well start giving these away like Oprah gave away cars on that landmark episode of her show.
Who still cannot go to Toys R Us or ROSS without seeing an inordinate amount of The Force Awakens product on store shelves? The stuff is so old and unsellable that it’s literally rotting on shelves. Look at how this Flametrooper figure is discoloring right before our eyes.
Fellow UK collectors might want to hit their local The Entertainer store as they have just got 3.75” TBS [P3] in for £11.25. JTA reader Chris M. from the UK is very pleased with this haul. And we thank him for this report!
JTA reader Agustin has sent us news that the Julio Cepeda toy store in Monterrey, México (which had tons of TBS6 [40th Anniversary] figures last year), now has at least 30 Commander Gree figures for USD $28. This is a strange sight for American collectors who have barely witnessed this figure hit.
Well, this is new… I stumbled upon this image on Facebook in a great group of collectors who follow the Toy Run podcast, and was immediately disheartened. Has this happened in any of your local Walmarts? If you’ve ever had to buy spray paint at Walmart you know how hard it can be to find the guy with the keys. And we thought collecting was hard enough! Has this happened in any of your local Walmarts? Credit goes out to Criz. B for the image.
JTA reader Aric B. sends us images of new TARGET shippers arriving at stores. I have not seen these at any of my local stores. Interesting. This is the first I have heard of them or seen them. The design is a little outdated if you ask me.
Why is everyone in the world finding The Black Series [Phase III] 6″ 4-LOM except for me!? Congratulations go to JTA reader Henry M. who found this wonderful selection of 6″ figures at his local GameStop store. We have also been getting reports of this figure hitting TARGET with regularity too. Oh, and shipping notices are going out from Hasbro Toy Shop that this item arrived two-weeks earlier than expected! Nice! Good luck if you still need this bounty hunter too. If I had known that 4-LOM would be the most challenging figure of 2018 to acquire, I would have gotten him early from my source in Asia. Sigh.
What a coincidence! This store report is in perfect timing with today’s RDR! JTA moderator Sjefke found a bunch of The Black Series 40th Anniversary 6″ Jawas at his closing Toys R Us store. This should show Hasbro once again how even a beautiful assortment of figures like the vintage Kenner inspired 40th anniversary line can suffer when figures aren’t spread evenly over the case ratios. One new figure per case. No repeat. No carry-forwards. Figures that sell out before others should then be converted to a solid case assortment to kill scalping. it’s not rocket science. And it will work.
I don’t know how long these new items have been out, but JTA reader and friend Russ T. sends us images of two cool new plush sets that arrived at his local Walmart a couple of days ago. I will kill for that cantina set.
We all know that Toys R Us in the USA is liquidating their inventory, but JTA reader Jason A. sends us a disconcerting image. His local store received a literal palet of Legacy Packs from The Black Series [Star Wars 40] line. How many of these bleeping things did they make? Can we expect more stuff like this to show up? Will the solid cases of Darth Revan finally arrive? Right now these sets are marked down to $23.99, but many other retailers have already cleared these out for $10 or less per pack. Is this a testament to how small our community is, or is it more of a testament to how lousy distribution is?
Sainsbury’s (a supermarket chain in the UK) have Star Wars [The Last Jedi] 3.75″ figures for sale. What’s interesting at this particular location, however, is that the male characters are on the shelf with a full £11 price tag. But the female characters are ‘reduced to clear’ at £7.33! Someone needs to do something about this. The female characters of Star Wars deserve the same higher MSRP as their male counterparts. Special thanks to JTA reader Shoretrooper for this disconcerting turn of events.
JTA reader and friend Russ T. has found the TARGET exclusive Chewbacca figure at his local TARGET in NJ. He also asked about the new 4-LOM figure. This was his experience with that: “My local Target had 6 of the new Solo Chewie figure, but no 4-Lom. When I asked the worker to look up the figure after I gave her the DCPI she said it comes up on clearance for $12.99 and they won’t be getting anymore. WHAAAAAT??? They never even had it yet”
UPDATE: JTA reader Colin A. sends us info that the DPCI is 087-06-9531
All of these store reports we’re receiving are disconcerting. JTA reader cress has purchased all of the latest The Black Series [Phase III] 6″ figures he wanted for $5.00 each. We also have seen reports of $7 and $9 figures too. After the buyers realize that they made NO MONEY on these figures, Walmart will be the next retailer not to want to take a chance on the Hasbro Star Wars brand. These assortment numbers need to change more frequently so they can discontinue old stock in a more organized fashion. This insanity happens all of the time now.
IT IS TRUE! ALL OF IT! Here is ANOTHER unbelievable find (that I am UNABLE to confirm)! In all my life collecting, I have NEVER seen action figures on clearance go this low. I have seen $.100, but never $.03. Commenters are claiming that Brickseek has older The Black Series [Phase III] 6″ figures listed for this price, but I am unable to confirm anything similar myself. There are also comments that it affects the new Death Star Commander too. Special thanks to friend Derek T. for alerting me to this image from The Black Series 6″ Collectors Facebook page!
UPDATE! We have a photo of JTA reader Brett P. scanning the 6″ figures at his local local Walmart. $0.03 EACH! INSANITY! Click through for the proof!
Unbelievable! Reports are pouring in from toy runners that the BB-8 Mega Playset has been marked down as low as $30 at some Walmart stores. We are getting plenty of reports that it is also found for $45. Special thansk to JTA readers Allen P. and vikingrobot and others for the reports and images. This item is still over $100 on Walmart.com. What ashame. This is a fantastic playset. It should have performed better. Perhaps get rid of the droid-shaped gimmick next time.
Because that’s where you’ll probably find them! Here is another reason why Walmart should lose the right to sell Star Wars action figures. Per JTA reader Ryan C., this particular Walmart still has boxed 3.75″ The Black Series [Phase III] figures in the aisle, but brand new The Vintage Collection figures in the clearance aisle. Maybe this Walmart employee looked at the first wave of TVC and exclaimed: “Not again!”
What’s sadder than sad? I am glad you asked because I have an answer. Sadder than sad is finding more Solo: A Star Wars Story stuff at my closing Toys R Us store (on clearance) than any other TARGET or Walmart in my area. That’s what’s sadder than sad. I hope all of the new product hits all at once so everyone can get the stuff they want. Maybe everyone else will catch up on April 20th. By the way, the article title is really sarcastic. I don’t know if anyone will find new figures at Toys R Us or not. It would be pretty “funny” if Zuckuss ends up arriving there, but I highly doubt it.
Qi-ra (Corellia) is available at Hasbro Toy Shop with a release date of June 1, but this wave is already showing up at Target. JTA reader Craig picked up both Qi-ra (Corellia) and 4-LOM at his local Shawnee, Missouri Target.
I should have known better. I can’t wait until I have to track down their The Vintage Collection exclusives. They’re absolutely the worst. I asked the toy manager where the Solo toys were. She said “What’s Solo?” Let us know in the comments if you had better luck.
