This Mandalorian figure is inspired by the colorful prototypes that enable the development team to look past the deco and focus on the sculpt, analyze mold alignment, and adjust for quality.

We’re not sure what Hasbro is doing with the Retro Collection line. But it feels like they’re running out of ideas as of late. It felt like it made more sense when they focused on making replica action figures of characters from the vintage Kenner line, but now they’re using stuff from Disney Star Wars to pad the line. And now they’re making exclusive characters for the line from The Mandalorian, which feels out of place. The Mandalorian (Prototype Edition) is the latest Skittles-colored action figure to date, and once again, it’s a Target-exclusive action figure. Like so many other figures before this one, there are only six color combinations, making life a little easier. Based on 2021’s RC The Mandalorian action figure, the figure comes with the same accessories, albeit in different colors, and packaged in a hologram-like styled packaging. What’s bittersweet here is that, for the first time, Hasbro cast the weapons in the unmistakable dark blue plastic of the vintage Kenner action figures. It’s a shame they missed this detail for The Empire Strikes Back wave of figures, but at least they’re incorporating them now. The Mandalorian (Prototype Edition) figure also gets a gray vinyl cape, akin to what Kenner gave Lando Calrissian, which fits The Mandalorian well. We’re not sure how many more rainbow-colored action figures Hasbro can produce before collectors revolt, but it seems there are enough suckers to go around even still.

Status: The Mandalorian (Prototype Edition) is a repaint of 2021's RC The Mandalorian figure. This time Hasbro cast the figure's parts in five primary and secondary colors. Like Boba Fett, Chewbacca, and Stormtrooper, there are only six combinations of The Mandalorian assembled.
