Anakin loses his battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi on the volcanic planet of Mustafar. Gravely wounded, Anakin falls into a burning lava pit and is left for dead. But the galaxy has not seen the last of this powerful former Jedi.
For years rumors abounded about how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. On May 19, 2005 Star Wars fans across the galaxy were shown the rumors were very true. Anakin Skywalker denounced his faith under the delusion that he could save those he loved from dying. And in doing so he betrayed those he once loved and became the most evil force in the galaxy after Emperor Palpatine. He battled Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, a lava planet and it was that fateful day where Anakin Skywalker would change both physically and emotionally to detach himself from whom he once was. A tragic tale on all accounts, it was a necessary turn of events in order to explain the redemption he received at the end of Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi. Hasbro knew that one of the action figures that needed to be released in their highly popular Revenge Of The Sith line was Anakin Skywalker (Battle Damage!). Technically Anakin was already Darth Vader at this point, but likely this was a detail Hasbro missed having to plan the line so early in advance. The final product doesn’t yield the greatest action figure of all time, but its versatility and good sculpting makes this a figure you’ll want to have in your collection.
Anakin Skywalker only comes with seven points of articulation. The head is a ball-socket joint, but the rest are all swivel…. and they need to be in order for them to be easily interchangeable for the kids. There are two phases of Anakin Skywalker in this package. Both work very well and then not so very well. We’ll explain. Anakin Skywalker can be configured pre battle-damaged and then can be converted to post battle-damaged. The figure was cleverly packaged to appear as if there were two figures included. But in actuality one body is utilized for both configurations. Battle-damaged Anakin Skywalker includes his torso, crispy head sculpt, cybernetic right arm, amputated left arm and amputated legs below the knees. Then by adding switching portraits, adding his boots, changing his cloaked arms and then adding his Jedi (Sith) robes you have Anakin Skywalker prior to his battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi. It appears this design of Anakin Skywalker was inspired by the scene on the attack of The Jedi Temple alongside the 501st Legion. You’ll probably want to buy two of these figures so you can have both versions of Anakin Skywalker. Both are noteworthy for different reasons.
