The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.
When things aren’t running smoothly in one line, perhaps we should focus on what’s going right in another line. That’s about as perfect of an assessment we can attribute to the Star Wars Toybox line from Disney. They’ve been knocking these figures out of the park and focusing on characters from the Original Trilogy to ensure the highest sales return possible. Chewbacca enters the line, and it might be our favorite release in the line yet. Chewbacca has some aesthetic issues, but nothing that the average collector cannot easily overlook. He’s large, buff and scruffy-looking. All of these components work together to create an action figure that is filled with personality as much as it is with quality. If the Star Wars Toybox line continues at this breakneck pace loaded with Original Trilogy characters, we feel the line has wonderful potential, and there is no end in sight for this fun line of animated action figures.
Chewbacca is super-articulated. But he has been put together from many different parts. Disney secured many of the separate parts together with some adhesive. Sadly, you can see some of the milky adhesive residues where the separate pieces were fused together. It’s not an overbearing issue, but it is noticeable in spots and may irritate you a bit if you’re picky about such things. Our sample has some spots that do affect the smoothness of the paint job. You may want to spend some extra time to find the best sample you can for your collection. But aside from that issue, Chewbacca is painted beautifully and looks as good as any other figure in the Star Wars Toybox line. You will be surprised at how much movement the figure can achieve. Disney knows how to articulate their action figures very well, and Chewbacca is a shining example of what can be accomplished in this line.
Chewbacca has great size and powerful stature, but he is also well-accessorized. Disney tooled an exaggerated bowcaster. It’s enormous when compared to the figure, yet it fits well in Chewbacca’s right hand. And with a little bit of patience, you can get his left arm and hand to cup the front of the bowcaster as needed. His bandolier is also removable, and this is a feature that isn’t too often employed with Chewbacca action figures. It’s a nice option to have, but it is problematic because it often slips with the slightest movement of the figure. With 27 points of articulation, Han Solo can achieve a nice array of movement. Whether you have his posed in some action stance, have him “running,” or have him standing at attention, he can do it all with little effort. Like Han Solo, Chewbacca also has tightened-up the joints too. We’re very pleased with how well Chewbacca turned out. We hope more Original Trilogy characters are on the way, and that Disney makes them more expediently.
