An accomplished Alliance Intelligence officer with combat field experience, Captain Cassian Andor commands respect from his Rebel troops with his ability to keep a cool head under fire and complete his missions with minimal resources.
In our review of The Black Series [Phase III] Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) (23) figure, we suggested that this character is meant to be a “poor man’s” Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) figure. With each successive release we can’t get that comparison out of our minds. Hopefully the character himself will share none of Han Solo’s qualities and that this is just more of a uniform reuse than anything else. As we have expressed in the past, we appreciate the nod to the Original Trilogy and anything that ties Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is just wonderful. We also hope that Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) has a pivotal role in the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story film. When it comes to any likeness on a Star Wars action figure, human likenesses can be hit or miss. Usually it’s the poor paint operations on top of a divine sculpt that actually ruins the figure. With the Rogue One line, Hasbro has been taking visible strides to make these figures look better than ever, but sadly it is still hit or miss. The latest characters based on Rogue One are showing us that this new trend is becoming more and more common. Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) is perhaps one of the better looking figures in the Rogue One line, but like his 6” counterpart, he is not perfect.
Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) comes with the “standard” five points of articulation that most other figures in this format have. This of course doesn’t give the figure a wide range of movement and while this is never a good thing is seems the collecting community is becoming more and more desensitized to it (oh the horror). It looks like Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) (as a character) should be able to move “a lot” but obviously this isn’t possible with this particular release. But the figure isn’t without merit. There are definitely some wonderful approaches taken with the figure, but then there are others leave us perplexed. For example, his parka is amazingly detailed. His belt line is loaded with “accessories” that can’t be removed and the paint operations here are quite nice. But then they didn’t give Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) a removable cap like they did with the 6” figure. What makes this more frustrating is that they actually tooled a separate piece to make the cap. So why not just work in a removable accessory? So this means that the 5POA version of Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) will always have his cap on and the reference images online show him not wearing it mostly (so far). It’s definitely a disappointment.
The paint operations on his face are better than average, but they look a bit rushed too, so you’ll have to decide for yourself. Based on what we’ve heard the collecting community say about Rey (Jakku) makes us realize that the community feels a bit differently on what a 5POA figure should look like. Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) comes with two accessories. Included are his blaster pistol and off-screen zip line accessories. His blaster pistol fits in a working holster on his belt, and the zip line accessory looks like a believable tool a Rebel Alliance member would utilize in an icy cold tundra. Hasbro did a nice job on this “extra” added in with Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu). Overall, Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) looks pretty good. We have very little to complain about its design, but we still are not satisfied with its approach. Other than not knowing if we’re going to love or despise this character is really the only concern any collector should have for this action figure. It will be wonderful to see Hasbro create a super-articulated 3.75” version of this character for the Walmart exclusive line. He might go over better in that scale.
