An accomplished Alliance Intelligence officer with combat field experience, Captain Cassian Andor commands respect from his Rebel troops with his ability to keep a cool head under fire and complete his missions with minimal resources.
Either The Black Series [Phase III] Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) figure is meant to be a “poor man’s” Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) figure, or the Rebel Alliance really does recycle its outfits. We honestly kid. We appreciate the nod to the Original Trilogy tremendously, and it appears so far that Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) will play a pivotal role in the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story film. When it comes to The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures, human likenesses can be hit or miss. Usually it’s the poor paint operations on top of a divine sculpt that actually ruins the figure. But Hasbro has been taking visible strides to make these figures look better. And some of the latest characters based on Rogue One are showing us that this new trend is becoming more and more common. Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) is one of the better looking figures in the 6” line. He definitely is reminiscent of Han Solo as he appeared on the icy tundra of Hoth, but he also has quite a bit of his own uniqueness as well. The comparisons are strong, but so are the differences. Thankfully, Hasbro designed an excellent sculpt for Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) and augments him with a better than average paint job. Let’s look at him a bit more carefully.
Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) comes with the “standard” 28 points of articulation that most other TBS6 figure have. This of course gives the figure a wide range of movement. But some areas don’t articulate as well as you’d might think. Many collectors of this line are dead set on double hinge-jointed elbows, but it certainly isn’t needed on all characters. Besides, this type of articulation is aesthetically displeasing to the human form. Regardless, Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) looks fantastic; almost like a real little man. His expression has been applied in a mediocre fashion. He appears a little smug to us, with his nostrils in a flare, but other than that the portrait deco could have been a lot worse. We’re thankful it isn’t. His parka has been nicely tooled as well. It’s been given a fitted look and gathers closely at the waist. And its three-quarter length hits him right at the thigh. What we find odd with his outfit is his shoes. They look like dress shoes for church or work. Between the bulky pants and coat, they definitely look odd. Maybe he doesn’t need snow boots, but you’d think that the design of this outfit would include some utility boot or something whole lot more functional.
Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) has a nice amount of accessories. Included are his cap, blaster rifle and blaster pistol. We noticed that his gloves haven’t been engineered perfectly to accept the handles of the guns well. It’s possible for Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) to hold them of course, it’s just not a perfect fit. We love the removable cap. It fits like a glove and gives the character a completely different look of course. The deco for the most part is right on point. And despite it being given a rather simple paint job, Hasbro did elevate some of the applications, like the eyebrows (which now have texture and shape) and the shadowy appearance they gave the parka hood. Whatever they did here seems to work for this character and this outfit. Overall, Captain Cassian Andor (Eadu) looks pretty good. We have very little to complain about its design or approach. Other than not knowing if we’re going to love or despise this character is really the only concern any collector should have for this action figure. It will be wonderful to see Hasbro create a super-articulated 3.75” version of this character for the Walmart exclusive line. He might go over better in that scale. But for those that do want a 3.75” version of him now, Hasbro made a simply articulated version of him for the Rogue One basic figure line.
