So Hasbro can make a box “vac-metalized” but can’t do the same for the figure inside of it? The Black Series [Phase III] Stormtrooper (Carbonized) figure has a box that’s more silvery and shinier than itself. What’s up with that?! (more….)

In 1984, a new packaging design of Star Wars packaging was introduced for the European market. A cost containment initiative, the new packaging sported three languages of the Return Of The Jedi logo for a “one size fits all” approach. Although a “three-logo” design was created for The Power Of The Force line (as evidenced on some ‘boxed’ toys), it wasn’t carried over to the basic figure line’s card design. They continued to use the three Return Of The Jedi logos instead. Although the word “Trilogo” is found nowhere on the packaging, the term is universally adopted by all Star Wars collectors to describe this line of figures.
Today we revisit Stormtrooper. The Stormtrooper’s Trilogo card art varies quite a bit from the standard cart art image of the Kenner release. Plumes of bright orange and yellow smoke as well as blackened areas were airbrushed onto the image. The altered card art came from a 1978 Kenner Toy Fair catalog so that the figure could be seen against the background image. The new detail added to the card art provided the background for the figure in the catalog The packaging also comes with the name Stormtrooper (Garde Imperial) printed on the name “pill.” The review’s Collector Notes are updated with this information. See the full card art and additional notes by revisiting 1978’s STAR WARS Stormtrooper figure HERE.

It seems Hasbro is finally retiring the much used original Imperial Stormtrooper sculpt we first saw all the way back in 2013. A tweaked and refined Imperial Stormtrooper (based on the appearance in The Mandalorian and Rogue One) was also revealed today. You can immediately tell that the new Stormtrooper looks even better than the old version. Articulation has also been tweaked and improved, the figure has new elbows and new shoulder pads make sure you can move the arms around much better now. The helmet is certainly another huge improvement! This is the new TBS troop builder you want to have for your 6 inch scale Stormtrooper squad! You can pre-order him later this month on May 28th!

It looks like Hasbro has made an update to the Imperial Stormtrooper (VC140) addressing the issue with yellowing torsos. JTA reader Josh sent in this image with a comparison picture featuring a newly released Stormtrooper versus an early release. The figure on the left has an obviously whitened torso compared to the earlier release, which shows signs of yellowing. Entertainment Earth still has this up for pre-order if you missed it the first time or are interested in the updated non-yellowing version.

It’s baffling how The Vintage Collection Imperial Troop Transport is on its way to some collectors’ homes as we speak, and yet nearly everyone is STILL waiting on The Vintage Collection Rogue One Imperial Stormtrooper figures to populate it. Arrival dates get pushed to the next month once we reach the end of the current month. And not too many people know what’s going on with it. Hasbro, we warned you the moment this figure was announced to produce it like you had no other figure to produce. But as usual, you don’t listen. If those pre-orders are limited or canceled, get ready for a backlash you’ve never seen to date. Oh, and before you say “Remnant Stormtroopers” are on the way, then you don’t understand why longtime collectors want the clean white Imperial Stormtroopers first and foremost.

I’m seeing numerous reports of wave 6 showing up in people’s homes around the country. Did you pre-order wave 6 of The Vintage Collection? I just got 4 stormtroopers in the mail yesterday (from Amazon, and not a scalper price). Post a photo of your most recent hauls, especially if you got wave 6, in the comments of your new figures and where you ordered them from.
