Hasbro

There was not much new that Hasbro had out to show us what was up and coming this year. In fact, aside for the Ben and Luke that will be packaged on the Vintage style card, the attraction of their setup was the cards themselves and how the lines will be broken down.

There will be two separate line to commemorate the release of the Original Trilogy on DVD this fall. The most anticipated will be a series of 12 figures on cards that look exactly like the old 12-back style cards, well, from the front at least. The cards will feature the Kenner logo, along with the same photos that we on the original cards and the coffin blister that we were all familiar with back in 1978. Inside the coffin blister will be a brand new sculpt of the character.

The back of the cards will be a new style that features a photo of the original figure on card, a list of the figures in the wave, including photos of the new figures and the old MOC image along with a list of the 12 figures to be included with the line.

The line will include 4 figures from each movie and they break down like this:

  • Star Wars: Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia and Han Solo
  • The Empire Strikes Back: Darth Vader, C-3PO, Yoda, Lando Calrissian
  • Return of the Jedi: Chewbacca, R2-D2, Boba Fett, Han Solo

The other line that will be offered is the Original Trilogy Collection. The OTC will be featured on a vintage style card and will contain all new figures to honor the Original Trilogy including Han Solo, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Scout Trooper, Luke X-Wing Pilot and many others including those that were announced on Hasbro's web site this past week.

Other items that will be offered are a new 12" Luke Skywalker, Stormtrooper and Boba Fett, a retooled Millennium Falcon with electronics and lights, a newly sculpted Ask Yoda with over 40 phrases, an X-Wing, Tie Fighter and lightsabers all in OTC packaging.

Gentle Giant

Mini-busts, Bust-ups, Clone Wars maquettes, helmets and statues in two different scales will make this a very busy year for the Gentle Giant product line collector. Lets start with the ever popular mini-busts. This line has quite a bit coming out that will make everyone happy and the quality and detail never ceases to amaze. The price point for this line will hold steady and this is what is slated to head our way the next few months:

  • Bossk
  • Gamorrean Guard
  • Deluxe Stormtrooper with multiple arm poses and weapons
  • Deluxe Sandtrooper with multiple arm poses and rank correct weapons
  • Luke X-wing Pilot
  • Bronze Jango Fett (MBNA Exclusive)
  • Clone Pilot (Wizard World Exclusive)
  • C-3PO (which still needs to be approved by Lucasfilm)

Next in line are a brand new product called Maquettes that honor the Clone Wars cartoon. A series of 5 statues up to nearly 12" tall have a tentative price point between $50-$100 and will include cool sculpts of the animated Obi-Wan Kenobi, Asajj Ventress, Yoda and Padm Amidala.

Another new product from Gentle Giant will be their Bust-Ups, small plastic pressure fitted statuettes of all your favorite Star Wars characters. At a price point of $4.99, each wave will contain 5 related Bust-Ups such as Bounty Hunters, Empire, Troops, etc. They will be packaged with only a small window (if any window at all...this will be up to the buyers this weekend) and it will be semi-pot luck on which Bust-Up you'll be getting...one hope is to generate a situation where trading for them is as fun as collecting them.

It does not stop here because Gentle Giant will also offer a movie accurate series of helmets. Sized at about the correct proportions of a 12" figure's head, expect to see a variety of helmets from X-Wing Pilots, Tie Fighter Pilots, Imperial Gunners and more.

To top off the new lines of merchandise that Gentle Giant will have for us this year are the statues. Being sculpted at two scales, the details on these will be incredible. The 12" Chewbacca will have a stormtrooper rifle and C-3PO tied to his back. The fur for our favorite Wookiee was even scanned in for accuracy! A 12" gold plated C-3PO is also on the boards and awaiting Lucasfilm approval. Another line of scaled statues has its aim on bringing a piece of the Star Wars Universe into the home. First up will be a Luke and Tauntaun with a Hoth base followed by a Sandtrooper on his Dewback. the price points for the statues will be between $150-$250.
