2006 Visual Guides Contest

Contest Submissions & Questions

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

April 26 Update
Q: When is the contest over again?
A: Great news! We've had some requests asking of an extension so everyone could get all their photos in and we've done just that! We have extended the deadline until May 9 which will give you a whole extra weekend to take those pictures and a few days after that to organize them and send them in!

Q: I'd like to take pictures of my Master Replicas FX lightsabers but you don't have an example guide. What should I do?
A: Send us an e-mail with a list of all the FX sabers you would like to take pictures of and we'll let you know how to take the pictures!

Q: Have any of the checklists been changed or updated?
A: Yes they have! We have updated the Master Replicas list to include a few more of this years scaled lightsabers. We have also added lists for the entire line of both Riddell and Don Post helmets. All of those items can be found in the High End Collectibles needs checklist.

Q: Do you have any other tips for photographing figures?
A: Yes. Remember that all of the figures should be photographed without their accessories. An additional shot of the figure should be taken with the figure's blaster and then all of the accessories should be photographed separately as well. When in doubt, just check a similar VG and all the info you'll need will be there!

April 10 Update
A few of you have had some questions about the contest...point clarifications, what angles you should take the pictures from and the like. You'll find all of those questions and the answers to them right here. Do you have a question? Send it in to [email protected].

Q: How do I know which pictures to take for each collectible?
A: This is a pretty simple one to answer. Simply look at similar Visual Guides on the site to give you an idea of what to do. For a bit more information, just read the tips below:

  • Action Figures, Kubricks, Young Kids Stuff: Front, back, both sides, an "action pose" with the accessories, individual shots of the accessories. See the The Saga Collection or Young Kids Visual Guides figures for examples.
  • Vehicles: Front, back, both sides, top, bottom and a 3/4 angle overview. Also show details on moving parts and all of the accessories. If it includes a figure, follow the guide for figures above. See the ROTS Visual Guide for examples.
  • Statues (Gentle Giant, Kotobukiya, Sideshow): Front, back, both sides, and the underside of the base if it includes the edition number. Both the front and back of COA if it has one. See the Gentle Giant Visual Guide for examples.
  • Scaled Lightsabers: Front, back and both ends with the lightsaber on the stand and the "top" and "bottom" of the lightsaber off the stand. Also an additional shot of the saber on the stand looking down at it from 45 degrees and open and closed box images. See the Master Replicas Scaled Replicas Visual Guide for examples.
  • Full Scale Replicas: All 6 sides of the replica (front, sides, back, top and bottom), replica base, replica cover, replica plaque, front and back of the COA, shot of the replica on the stand looking down at it from 45 degrees, display box with replica (if applicable) and any other important documentation. See the Master Replicas Obi-Wan Kenobi ANH Replica Visual Guide for examples.
  • Vehicle Replicas: Same as regular vehicles, but with extra attention to the details, display stand and documentation as listed in Full Scale Replicas above.
  • SW Miniatures & Attacktix: Front, back and both sides of the figure along with the front and back of the stats card (for Miniatures). See the Rebel Storm Visual Guide for examples.
  • LEGO: This really depends on the set. Follow the guide for vehicles as an example that covers most sets, keep in mind to add photographs for details and moving parts. Mini-figs only need to be photographed from the front. Check out the LEGO Visual Guide for examples.

Q: What if someone sends in images for a Visual Guide before me...am I out of luck?
A: Nope! Send in your images too and they will count towards your contest total. The more images we have, the better the Visual Guides will be!

Q: How many images do you need of the packaging?
A: Generally, we just show the front image so that is all we would need. But, if a box comes with a flap please include pictures with the flap both opened and closed. You should take pictures of all sides of the box for exclusive items (Store exclusives, Hong Kong sets, etc.)

Q: What if I have both the collectible and the packaging and send them both in...how many entries is that worth?
A: The collectible is worth one entry and the packaging is worth 1/2 point, so if you send them both in you'll receive 1-1/2 entries.

Q: How many entries are the Star Wars Miniatures worth?
A: Each miniature and the Stat Card are worth one entry. But in the case where we need the Stat Card only, that is worth 1/2 entry.

     Q: I only have one thing I can photograph...should I still enter?
A:Yes! Everyone has a chance to win no matter the number of items you have to photograph! Each item is worth one entry and all the entires go into the "hat" giving everyone a chance at winning and selecting their prize!
