2017 Toy Fair: Hasbro Stuff You Probably Haven't Heard Yet....

Here are some things that were said, uttered and hinted at that you probably haven't heard yet from Hasbro.... Click through for more.

There was a lot going on at Toy Fair today. There was no doubt about it: 3.75" super-articulated collectors have been completely ignored, save for four repacks coming in the Walmart exclusive lineup.

But Steve Evans, Design Director for Hasbro, included in the Hasbro presentation these words: a good story has a beginning, a middle and an end. And 2017 is a long year to celebrate this anniversary BEFORE Episode VIII gets release. He then likened this metaphor to the 40th anniversary of Star Wars and what Hasbro is doing with it. I think it's safe to say that today is only meant to be the beginning. This may ONLY BE my interpretation, but it seems relevant that this detail was actually uttered. Always pressing for SA 3.75" details, I couldn't help but notice how their body language and facial expressions change when I ask a direct question like "Is anything coming this year for super-articulated 3.75: questions? They want to answer diplomatically without lying of course, but I am a good reader of body language. And what I know from my own sources, it seems that something could still be possible for us in the future.

I asked Joe Ninivaggi and Steve Evans to put the unreleased SA 3.75" cancelled Phase I Captain Rex in their "black books" for release consideration from the Legacy Collection lineup that got shelved. Joe wrote it down. We will be following up with both of them at Celebration to see if the figure has begun going into development. Hey, we worked magic with the Emperor's Royal Guard and Ponda Baba, hopefully this much sought after 3.75" figure will finally get to see the light of day.

I asked a question in the Q&A, so you may have heard it already, about the TLC Millennium Falcon and SW [SOTDS] Imperial AT-AT and what they'd cost in today's market. They said about $400 each. I sort of mumbled under my breath, but I suggested they should release them at these prices because it is so much better value for the dollar. It's unlikely they'll even bother at this point.

I caught up with the wonderful Derryl DePriest. (Adam - Derryl says "hi"....) We reminisced on the many wonderful products released under him and including Comic Packs and Battle Packs. We talked about many things, but one thing that struck a chord with me is that he relayed that he is shocked by some of their aftermarket values and wished people would have bought them when they were active products in stores. So, to 6" collectors (since the focus is on you now), always remember that waiting for clearance does NOT promote a healthy toy line. Just remember that or your line could one day end up like the 3.75" lineup. This is advice, not criticism.

Jedi Temple Archives was called out during the Hasbro presentation. While eating his Froot Loops every morning, Steve Evans checks out JTA to see what we're saying about him next, or complaining about the line, or praising the line. In other avenues he has always qualified that opinions of all calibers are all good and helpful. We hope that's what he meant today in today's presentation at least.

On a somewhat "uncomfortable" (but humorous) related note, people I didn't even know came up to me and said "hello Paul" to me. Something tells me I am on "someone's" radar.

Speaking of uncomfortable, Hasbro is well aware of and can decode our "random posts". Take that as you wish.

We did a separate article on this, but Joe and Steve confirmed that The Black Series 40th Anniversary Collection figures will come punched (as in NOT unpunched). If you're a 6" collector and don't know what that means we are unable to help you further. (Sarcasm, don't get all hissy at me.)

The Walmart exclusive 3.75" Tusken Raider is still the 2006 VTSC sculpt. Yes, I am just upset as you are.

The Black Series [Phase III] Lando Calrissian is STUNNING. It is reminiscent of Sideshow Collectibles 6" version. I begged Steve Evans to please "shrink it down" and make a SA 3.75" figure of it. Steve asked me what was 'wrong' with the 2004 VOTC version and I immediately explained that the figure comes with swivel elbows. Hopefully one day this will become a reality.

Episode VII Luke Skywalker is once again a hot topic. Hasbro "assured" us that multiple versions of him are coming.

I think that's everything. If I recall any other details, I will update this article.
