Star Wars: The Force Awakens was nominated in five categories, but ended up with zero wins. The Force Awakens lost to Mad Max: Fury Road in three categories and Ex Machina in the visual effects category. C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8 made an appearance to honor John Williams' 50th Oscar nomination though. Williams came up short in the highly competitive Best Original Score category. Iconic composer Ennio Morricone received his first, and long overdue, Oscar for his work on The Hateful Eight. Even though The Force Awakens didn't take home any awards, I want to congratulate the cast and crew on their nominations. Regardless of your feelings towards the film, it's clear that a lot of care went into making it. To the cast and crew of The Force Awakens, congratulations on your nominations and thank you for taking us back to a galaxy far, far away.
