Research Droids Reviews: September 11, 2013 – September 24, 2013

Yoda & Chian (Padawan Lightsaber Training) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #15)
In Attack Of The Clones, we saw Jedi Master Yoda train younglings in the Jedi Temple. People, including Hasbro, mistook them for Padawans, but they were actually Jedi Initiates. Obi-Wan Kenobi sought Yoda’s infinite wisdom out to solve a puzzle of a missing planet that no longer appeared in the archives.... (read the full review)

Ashla & Jempa (Jedi Padawans) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #16)
Hasbro gave collectors three Jedi younglings (or Jedi Initiates to be precise) is the Star Wars “Saga” line and while they don’t offer super-articulation, they do offer collectors long-awaited “action” figures of the youngest Jedi characters. Often confused as Padawans, Ashla & Jempa along with the other children training to eventually become Padawans are Jedi Initiates.... (read the full review)

Orn Free Taa - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #35)
None too many of us expected to see a corpulent Twi’lek in the Prequel Trilogy that supported Palpatine, did we? But we did when Orn Free Taa was introduced to us as an important consultant to Senator Palpatine. Making his very first appearance in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, he had a “larger” role (pun intended) in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones.... (read the full review)

TIE Interceptor (Vehicle) - TVC - Vehicles (Exclusive)
It’s truly amazing how classic Kenner packaging can make an already good vehicle look even better. That sentiment pretty much applies to all vehicles in the Star Wars toy line, but it’s especially true when it comes to the vehicles in The Vintage Collection, and in this case specifically the TIE Interceptor. Since its inception in 1984, it has gone through a series of aggressive changes throughout the years.... (read the full review)

Padmé Amidala (Arena Escape) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #02)
Where does an action figure that had so much potential go horribly wrong? That is pretty much the sentiment we feel when it comes to 2002’s Star Wars “Saga” Padmé Amidala (Arena Escape). This action figure has great proportions, a decent likeness and cool accessories, but it’s been devastated by one of the worst action features ever to be included in a basic action figure.... Padmé Amidala (Coruscant Attack) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #41)
After a rough first release with Padmé Amidala (Arena Escape) ('02 #02), collectors began to worry what future versions of Padmé Amidala they could expect in the Star Wars “Saga” line. But when Padmé Amidala (Coruscant Attack) was released, many of us felt a sense of hope that not all was lost with action figure interpretations of our favorite heroine in the Prequel Trilogy.... Padmé Amidala (Secret Ceremony) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #22)
Many collectors stopping chomping at the bit for the action figure that was going to complement 2003’s SW [S - P2] Anakin Skywalker (Secret Ceremony) (‘03 #07) action figure. But Hasbro was faithful to us and finally released Padmé Amidala (Secret Ceremony) just a short while after, much to the appeasement of the collecting community.... (read the full review)

Padmé Amidala (Lars’ Homestead) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #36)
It’s hard to find a situation in collecting Star Wars action figures that beats when Hasbro gives us multiple outfits for an action figure in one fell swoop. It’s gratifying to witness Hasbro kill as many birds with one stone as possible, especially when a character like Padmé Amidala is wearing different threads in almost every scene of the film. This was especially true in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones.... (read the full review)

Yoda (Jedi Master) - Order Of The Jedi - 1:6 Scale Figures
We know it’s true for Hasbro that they try to amortize tooling costs by creating as many different characters out of one all-new sculpt. A simple example would be the phase I clone trooper. Once they lock down the “all-white” design, they can make the clone trooper officers as well as delve into some phase II and Expanded Universe clones as well.... (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker (Secret Ceremony) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #07)
We all knew it was inevitable that Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala would marry, but perhaps maybe some of us didn’t expect them to do it so secretly as we witnessed in the film. But expressing their love in this manner was inevitable as both had so much to lose by falling in love. As complete opposites, both "careers" were in jeopardy.... (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker (Tatooine Attack) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #43)
We remember clearly as day when Anakin Skywalker first showed signs of succumbing to the dark side of the Force in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. This teetering on the fence with evil begins when he goes out to rescue his mother from the Sand People. After having one premonition after another of her pain and suffering, he went on a mission to find her.... (read the full review)

Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #09)
Captain Typho is one of those obligatory “B-list” characters in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. But he had a very important role in the film as he was Head of Padmé’s security forces. She was in need of constant protection because of all the attempts made on her life.... (read the full review)

Tusken Raider (Tatooine Camp Ambush) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #06)
The segment of film in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones that surrounded around Anakin Skywalker searching for his mother and wiping out an entire Sand People colony was perhaps the most emotional moments of the film. We saw a side of Anakin Skywalker that we knew was buried within his bones.... (read the full review)

Kit Fisto (Jedi Master) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #05)
Sometimes action figures with action features come out pretty well. This is certainly more of a rarity than anything else because awkwardly added springs, lever and magnets can often be obtrusive to the aesthetics of a normally good sculpt.... (read the full review)
