Sideshow Collectibles Declines Offering SDCC Exclusives This Year

Topic: Sideshow Collectibles

In March we broke the news that Sideshow Collectibles had quietly cancelled the release of the "all clean" C-3PO Life Size Bust. It was odd for multiple reasons. Up to that point, Sideshow Collectibles would never reveal a product and place it on pre-order only to cancel it. It's too far along in the process at that point. What made it more odd was that their reason for cancelling it was because they couldn't replicate the paint operations from the prototype. Sideshow Collectible "can't" replicate the paint operations of the prototype? We don't think so. There has to be something more here. Now, CoolToyReview.com is reporting that Sideshow Collectibles has bowed out of offering a San Diego Comic Con exclusive this year. WHAT?! This is unprecedented and VERY disappointing. And quite frankly it makes no sense. While there is nothing more we can do than speculate at what's going on, it does make us wonder if we have room to worry about what their future plans are for products under the Star Wars branding. What are your thoughts?

UPDATE: Sideshow has confirmed via their Twitter feed that there will indeed be no SDCC exclusives this year. They have also stated that in lieu of any SDCC exclusives they will be offering other exclusives throughout the year from both themselves and Hot Toys. But that is a silly statement to make. This of course means that the only difference is that there will be no 2013 SDCC exclusives as originally stated because they release exclusive products throughout the year regardless. Um, Mythos anyone? It still makes us wonder what is going on over there.
