Research Droids Reviews: May 8, 2013 – May 21, 2013

Yoda - OTC - Vintage
Strong with the Force is this one. Did it really take almost a full decade from the launch of the modern classic line to get a Yoda with a snake accessory? Perhaps Hasbro was waiting for The “Vintage” Original Trilogy Collection to come to fruition before they actually considered doing such and thing.... (read the full review)

Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) (With Extension Arm) - OTC - Vintage
It’s common knowledge that R2-D2 is the Swiss army knife of astromech droids. Because if this Hasbro either doesn’t know how to properly approach the character when it comes time to develop a new action figure for the toy line, or they try to squeeze in too many things that ultimately do not work that well with each other.... Chewbacca - OTC - Vintage
Just when collectors thought they couldn’t be any more impressed with Hasbro thanks to the VOTC Han Solo figure, they were once again wowed to dizzying levels with the released of The “Vintage” Original Trilogy Collection Chewbacca figure.... (read the full review)

Stormtrooper - OTC - Vintage
If there was one Star Wars character fans were dying to see Hasbro create in “ultimate” status, it would have to be the Stormtrooper. What other character is a more iconic Original Trilogy army builder than the Stormtrooper. Not even the Snowtroopers come as close to complete awesomeness as the Galactic Empire’s band of shock troops.... (read the full review)

Boba Fett - OTC - Vintage
When it came to making Boba Fett action figures based on his appearance from Return Of The Jedi, Hasbro could never quite get it right. The incorrect colors often plagued the earliest versions of Boba Fett and then other mixed details from both Episode V and Episode VI for a strange yet unique concatenation.... Yoda, The Jedi Master - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
You really have to hand it to Gentle Giant Ltd. sometimes when it comes to their ability of capturing the most minute of detail on classic toys and apply them to their collectibles. This is especially true with the Jumbo Vintage Kenner line, a line of high-end collectibles that are scanned from the original Kenner 3.75” action figures we grew up with as kids.... (read the full review)

Greedo - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
If you asked a sampling of male collectors what their favorite vintage Kenner Star Wars figure was as a kid, you might hear the name of Greedo pop up more often than not. He is symbolic of the Mos Eisley’s Chalmun’s Cantina, and we all witness him get fried right after he threatened Han Solo’s life.... (read the full review)

Hammerhead - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
It’s more than fair to assess at this point that Gentle Giant Ltd.’s Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line has kicked into high gear. Appearing to test the market with the most popular characters from the 1978 Star Wars Kenner line, Gentle Giant Ltd. eagerly has stepped into the background characters pool delivering such classics as the droids and aliens that made up most of the 1979 action figure offerings.... Walrus Man - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
We have come across Star Wars fans throughout the years that have gone so far as mocked Kenner for their interpretations of classic action figures like Hammerhead and Walrus Man. Their inaccurate costumes (and even physical features) in particular are the source of criticism. “Just what were they thinking?!” is a question we often here.... (read the full review)

Cantina Adventure Set - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
The Cantina Adventure Set, more commonly and affectionately known as the Sears Cantina, is special to collectors for multiple reasons. But perhaps it possesses the most notoriety for including an error figure which eventually developed into one of the most sought after vintage Kenner action figures of all time; the Blue Snaggletooth.... Snaggletooth - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Snaggletooth was the very first Expanded Universe character period. But this title doesn’t come without its own fair share of controversy. While none of the cantina aliens released in the 1979 Kenner Star Wars action figure line had much accuracy at all, it was Snaggletooth who not only went through an intense metamorphosis as an action figure, but who card back artwork was based off of a character seen in The Star Wars Holiday Special and not Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.... Death Star Droid - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
The original Kenner Star Wars line appealed to so many facets of our young creative minds. But that creativity was directly born out of the diverse cast of characters Kenner developed for us in the basic figure line. We had to create our own adventures, perhaps with the help of a few random playsets here and there and come up with our own inspirations for storylines and battles we fought during playtime.... R5-D4 - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Throughout the years, there have been very few accurate representations of R5-D4 by Hasbro in the basic figure line. At face value some sculpt shave been amazing, but one detail, more often than not, is always left out. We are referring to the vertical red panels on the astromech droid’s posterior.... Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Collectors can now welcome what may be one of the most surprising additions to the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line. A Star Wars action figure that was never officially released in any capacity back in 1979, the Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] Jumbo figure comes from Gentle Giant Ltd. as a very surprising yet awesome release in this line....
