Dear team at Jedi Temple Archives,

I have not been an active Star Wars collector for some years now, but occasionally take a look online to see what Hasbro is doing. The toy business remains interesting to me. I very much enjoy the reviews you post on your website.

Today I visited your web site and read your review for the new "Discover the Force" Dewback figure. I sympathize with your frustration over its lack of Episode I specific gear, as this does make Hasbro look particularly careless.

But I'm afraid the news is somewhat more frustrating than you reported. I remember a few years ago reading an article (I cannot remember where) in which the sculptor of what I thought was this particular Dewback was interviewed. Along with the interview there were pictures of some of his work. A quick Google image search revealed the following. I thought you'd be interested.

The prototype did have the Episode I specific gear, or at least some of it. I think the head-gear looks like it is from Episode I, anyway. I do not know why this gear was created and then not produced. But I think this does look like the prototype for the same toy you just reviewed. I hope this is helpful. If I am right and it is the same prototype for the same dew back, then I think it is very frustrating.

Congratulations on running a very nice web-site. Hope you are doing well.

Thank you for your comments Mr. Anonymous. I think he brings up a really great point. Hasbro has said for years that if they actually expended the time and effort to tool stuff and not release it would be a total waste of time and money otherwise. So technically we could have received that Episode I specific bridle? Frustrating isn't the word as far as I am concerned. And it's something we're going to ask Hasbro about at Toy Fair. What do you think? It's possible that this is only a wax sculpture. If that's the case, then technically no real tooling was completed. Post your comments below!
