Research Droids Reviews: December 7, 2011 – December 13, 2011

Sandtrooper (Desert Sands Detachment - Militaries Of Star Wars - 1:6 Scale Figures
The Sandtrooper (Desert Sands Detachment) 1:6 Scale is another example of Hasbro coming through loud and clear in Sideshow Collectibles impressive 1:6 Scale Figure line. If you recall, the first Hasbro-inspired product was the Utapau Shadow Trooper. Excellently brought to life in larger scale courtesy of Sideshow, it’s nice to see them pay homage to the hard work Hasbro puts forth into their beloved 3.75” scaled line, even if some of the things replicated in one-sixth scale are technically mistakes.... Concept Luke Skywalker (Ralph McQuarrie Signature Series) - TAC - Basic (Exclusive)
2007 was celebratory for multiple reasons. Not only was it time to celebrate 30 years of Star Wars in general, Star Wars fans across the globe geared up for both Star Wars Celebration IV and Celebration Europe, both of which produced unique exclusives of their own. 2007 was the year for concept figures so it made sense that Hasbro would create a few exclusive concept figures and throw them into the mix as well.... Concept R2-D2 & C-3PO (Ralph McQuarrie Signature Series) - TAC - Basic (Exclusive)
Two figures for…. $20!? The exclusives in the 30 (77-07) were pretty much all well received, but one set made collectors cringe, but not because of the characters included in it, but for the price. The Concept R2-D2 & C-3PO Celebration IV/Celebration Europe exclusive proved to be successful despite its price, but left many collectors with buyer’s remorse because of the exuberant price tag.... Concept Grievous (Warren J. Fu Signature Series) - TAC - Basic (Exclusive)
When George Lucas needed some visual representation of what would be the main villain in the final Star Wars chapter, he called upon some of the greatest artists at ILM to visually portray what he was looking for in this character. The winning sketch went to Warren J. Fu and the look of Grievous was forever captured in his illustration.... (read the full review)

BARC Speeder Bike With Clone Trooper Buzz - TCW [SOTDS] - Deluxe (Exclusive)
The Fall 2011 Walmart exclusives were the center of one of the biggest dramas of “missing in action” Star Wars products the collecting community has ever seen. Originally supposed to be available in the summer of 2011, they begun appearing on shelves much later in the beginning of December. At least they arrived in time for Christmas.... AT-RT Walker With ARF Trooper - TCW [SOTDS] - Deluxe (Exclusive)
There are quite a few The Clone Wars characters that completely shock us on why Hasbro has not attacked them for the basic figure line. Their platform for choosing characters usually is based upon how often they appear in the series of if they’re part of a multi-episodic story arc, but sometimes there are just some characters that deserve to be part of the toy line based on how awesome they are or look.... Concept Obi-Wan & Yoda (Ralph McQuarrie Signature Series) - TAC - Basic (Exclusive)
2007 was all about Ralph McQuarrie. Well, a subset of action figures were at least. They became part of the basic figure line and even a few became convention exclusives. They were popular and it seemed that collectors couldn’t get enough of them into their collection and many wondered when hasbro would be gracing the basic figure line with more of them. StarWarsShop.com also wanted to join the party and Hasbro set aside the Concept Obi-Wan & Yoda two-pack for them.... (read the full review)
