Echo Base News announces Customs for a Cause - Star Wars fans unite to support ROAR Charity

Echo Base News has launched a new contest to support ROAR (Rwandan Orphans Assistance Response), a charity based in Australia and run by actress Lily Nyamwasa, who portrayed Jedi Master Stass Allie in Attack of the Clones. The contest is called Customs for a Cause, and aims to bring Star Wars artists together to exhibit their creations and raise money for ROAR’s various charitable projects which help provide water, school supplies, and other basic needs to children in Rwanda.

The art of customizing (or creating “customs”) is an aspect of the Star Wars hobby which is enjoyed by a huge number of fans. Customizers produce all kinds of cool Star Wars creations such as unique action figures created from existing parts, figurines sculpted from the ground up, and a wide range of other art including dioramas and cardbacks. Customs for a Cause is open to all customizers of all age groups and experience levels and is all about giving aspiring customizers and long-time experts a place to show off their creations, all to help support a great cause.

Here’s how this works. For every entry in the contest, Echo Base News donates $1 to ROAR Charity. So the more participation we receive in the contest, the more we get to donate!

But wait, there’s more! In addition to contributing money to ROAR, eligible entrants have a chance to win some awesome Star Wars prizes!

If there is enough participation in this contest and the entrants are willing to help make it happen, we will also be auctioning off any entries that get donated to us on eBay, to raise even more money for ROAR. Plus, this gives other fans and collectors a chance to acquire some wonderful and completely unique Star Wars art! More details about the auction will be announced in the near future if it is decided that there is enough interest for it to take place.

All entries will be posted in the Echo Base News Forums. Entrants are encouraged to register for a forum account and post entries in the designated thread. Registration in the Echo Base News Forums is fast and free. However, entrants can also submit their entries by email. Please send any email entries to [email protected]

The deadline for submitting entries is Tuesday, January 31, 2012. All winners will be officially announced on Friday, February 10, 2012.

Please email us at [email protected] with any and all questions regarding Customs for a Cause.
