Toy Fair 2010 - Clone Wars Basic Figures

Posted by Nick | February 13, 2010 at 11:22 PM ET

Clone Wars continues on as one of the strongest segments of the STAR WARS license. That success is due in large part to the success of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the Cartoon Network. So what figures will the animated series yield?

Hasbro revealed a number of Clone Wars basic figures that are still scheduled to be released in the current white and red line look. These include some figures that have been previously announced and are starting to just filter into retail. Additionally there is at least one wave that had not been previously announced. The remaining red and white Clone Wars figures include:

WAVE 2 - In Stores Now
Anakin Skywalker in cold weather gear
     Thi-Sen
     Commander Stone
     Darth Sidious
     TX-20 Tactical Droid

     WAVE 3 - Available April '10
Obi-Wan Kenobi in cold weather gear
     Captain Rex with Heater Pack
     Magna Guard (with softgoods)
     Firefighter Droid

Following the release of wave 3 the Clone Wars line will wind down in preparation for the August 2010 relaunch. When that relaunch happens the line look will change drastically from the red and white look to the new, forboding black & blue look that's being referred to by Hasbro as the SHADOW OF THE DARK SIDE. In this phase of the Clone Wars Basic Figure line collectors can expect 31 figures between the line relaunch and the end of 2010.

Hasbro has noted that going forward they will be trying to tie in figure releases in a more timely fashion with episodes of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS as they air. Still, with the August relaunch Hasbro will be releasing characters who are appearing now in January and February episodes of the Clone Wars animated series. So what's in store for the basic figure line in this SHADOW OF THE DARK SIDE phase of Clone Wars?

     WAVE 1 - In stores August 2010

General Grievous (with cape)
Pre Vizsla (with black katana lightsaber)
     Mandalorian Guard
     Aurra Sing

Also on display in the Toy Fair showroom were some previously unseen figures. Among them were some of the following:

Mace Windu (with split Mandalorian helmet)
     ARF Trooper (Teth camoflage
)
Kit Fisto (from the Lair of Grievous episode)
     Battle Droid Commander

Wave assignments for these figures are yet to be determined. Stay tuned for more on that front! A key identifying mark on the Clone Wars cardback will be a blue tab on the top of the card. This will be used to distinguish the Clone Wars figures from the Saga Legends figures which are being offered in the same package color scheme, but with an orange flash at the top of the cardback.

The value added pack-in with Clone Wars basic figures is the GALACTIC BATTLE CARD GAME. Each figure comes with a base, a card with character attributes and a die. Gameplay is simple, and is designed for kids to play with figures in a structured format. The cards show the powers and abilities of a character, and rolls of the dice can determine how one figure fares against another. These accessories will be included with all Clone Wars & Saga Legends figures and Battle Packs
