The Wonderfull Collecting Niche of Japanese Chirashi Mini Posters

Posted by Chuck | January 30, 2016 at 12:08 PM ET

Even after nearly 40 years of collecting I still manage to come across a cool collectible that I hadn't previously known about. As a long time 'paper' collector, I've always had a soft spot for trading cards, posters, flyers, pamphlets, or anything that helps capture the "moments in time" of Star Wars collecting. This past December I recently discovered the cool little world of Japanese Chirashi mini posters. These little things are hugely popular in Japan and can be found en masse on eBay at very affordable prices. Click through to have a closer look at this fun little corner of collecting!

What I found the most alluring about buying these little pieces of art is the cost. For about $5 a piece you can pick up just about any of these mini posters. Even the original 35+ year old OT ones. If you find a seller who has a lot of them you can save on shipping. I was able to purchase 12 of these from the same seller for $61 shipped, which was a few cents over $5 each.

Each of these little mini posters are 7.25"x10.25". I picked up a nice little 8.5x11 portolio on Amazon to put these in and they make a very attractive little book featuring mini-poster art from our favorite universe!

(Just a little side note, the Itoya brand of portfolios are amazing for storing posters of all sizes. I have purchaed both the 11x17 and the 18x24 for easy poster storage and viewing)

Think you might be interested? Start hitting eBay and checking them out! Here's some very postive reasons to pick these up:

  • VERY affordable
  • There's not a ton of different posters to collect, so putting together a full set is pretty easy—with none of them being so rare you will never be able to afford!
  • Fit nicely in a small portfolio book for easy display on your shelf with the rest of your books, etc.
  • Feature poster art from the best movies of all time!
