Q and A of the Day: Day 67

Posted by Paul | June 29, 2014 at 08:05 PM ET

Welcome to our next Q and A of the Day post! This column will be published daily, weekly, monthly, or just based on how many questions I get emailed – but no more than one a day. Feel free to send in your questions and I will put them in the queue. Click through for Q and A of the Day: Day 67. Topic: Who is the best?

Q: Hello Paul. I have a quick question (or two!) for you. What do you think about Disney allowing so many companies to make Star Wars figures, and from what you have seen and heard from all the photos and news, which is your favorite and why? Thank you for taking time to read this, and have a great day. Best regards. (The Wampa Lover)

A: I think it's a bit too early to make that determination. While I am head over heels into the Disney Store exclusive Talking Star Wars Figures, I still want to have a cautionary attitude to see what the licensing brings us for the future from all of the companies out there. Well, I should probably also state that one company has disappointed me so much that I am reconsidering how much energy I am going to focus on them going forward.. As I find myself constantly defeated and depressed about how Hasbro has managed the 3.75" line, I have been discovering that it might be all for the better. There is no way I am wasting my money on Saga Legends and Mission Series and pretty much every other complementary product they've made has been an utter waste of time too. They're just producing too much junk and I won't be force fed that stuff any longer. If Hasbro wants to step up to the plate again, I am game too. I say all this to express that II find that my interests now are being redirected towards Sideshow Collectibles and Gentle Giant Ltd. much more strongly than in the past. Yes, the stuff those licensees are making are quite expensive, but they are giving me the quality I expect... and the products I want to see. I may have to pay more for higher end collectibles, but I find that I am not disappointed at all unlike pretty much everything Hasbro is producing these days.

Hasbro has told me to my face that SDCC will bring us things that we just will not believe. I don't know what to think about that now. So, what if they give me new figures I want to see, or a vehicle I have been wanting for years? Until they can get the paint operations in order, I just can't get excited about them. And with the lack of articulation they are now including in the collector-focused premium line, I have little faith that they will keep their promises and follow through with what they say they will do. In short, I will make a better judgment call after SDCC is all said and done.
