Research Droids Reviews: August 28, 2013 – September 10, 2013

Wat Tambor (Geonosis War Room) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #23)
What is there to be said about Wat Tambor? Well, quite a bit actually. He is a male Skakoan from the planet Skako. But more importantly, as Wookieepedia goes on to explain, he was the Foreman of the Techno union and Executive of Baktoid Armor Workshop.... (read the full review)

R2-D2 (Jabba’s Sail Barge) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’04 #05)
Let’s be frank. Hasbro definitely has a clever side when it comes to giving us every last version of a main character. Whether it’s a “blink and you’ll miss it” iteration of a character, or an outfit that may be slightly different from the way the character worse it during most of the film, you have to hand it to them for making something relatively “old” new again.... (read the full review)

R-3PO (Hoth Evacuation) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’04 #02)
Excluding articulation, there exists some action figures that Hasbro will never be able to outdo. A perfect example of this is R-3PO (Hoth Evacuation) from the 2004 phase of the Star Wars “Saga” line. The figure is done so incredibly well (as far as its deco is concerned) that you’ll probably need some time to register that this figure has no more articulation than its The Power Of The Force “2” predecessors.... (read the full review)

Aayla Secura (Jedi Knight) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #11)
When it comes to the Battle of Geonosis, Hasbro probably feels sensory overload when trying to decide which Jedi to make into action figure form for Star Wars collectors. Obviously there are clearly some first-choice candidates like Aayla Secura, but imagine what they have to decide for the lesser known.... (read the full review)

Barriss Offee (Luminara Unduli’s Padawan) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #12)
When it comes to figures in the Star Wars “Saga” line, you’re going to have to accept many of them as miniatures versions of figures from the Star Wars Unleashed line. Hasbro has taken a whole new approach with the basic figure line during this tenure of the toy line.... (read the full review)

X-wing Fighter - TVC - Vehicles (Exclusive)
We bet you never expected to see Biggs Darklighter’s X-wing Fighter released as an exclusive in The Vintage Collection, did you? We certainly didn’t. Typically Hasbro reserves iconic vehicles for exclusive release in this line, like Slave I (Boba Fett’s Space Ship) and the Millennium Falcon. But that’s precisely what version of the X-wing Fighter Hasbro chose to re-release as another Toys R Us exclusive.... (read the full review)

Captain Antilles (Tantive IV Invasion) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’04 #15)
There are some Hasbro Star Wars action figures that stand out from the among the rest. Count Captain Antilles (Tantive IV Invasion) is definitely one that fits into this category. We should probably mention right from the start that the figure is not perfect, but it’s excellent for a number of reasons.... (read the full review)

Darth Tyranus (Geonosian Escape) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #03)
Did you ever want to call Darth Tyranus, Darth Tyranusauras Rex? No? Well, never mind then. If you collect Hasbro Star Wars figures, then you know you’re going to see the same characters over and over again in a lightly different light. But we maybe didn’t expect to see Darth Tyranus (or perhaps more accurately, Count Dooku) as many times as we did in the Star Wars “Saga” line.... (read the full review)

Djas Puhr (Alien Bounty Hunter) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #40)
The Expanded Universe will tell you that he is a Sakiyan bounty hunter with ties to Sebulba and Jabba the Hutt, but you’ll likely only care that he is another check off of your Chalmun’s cantina list of aliens Hasbro has to make for your own personal collections.... (read the full review)

Darth Malgus - Premium Format Figures
There is something really special about an Expanded Universe character that becomes exponentially popular with Star Wars fans simply based on the way he looks. Let’s be honest, aside from The Old Republic video game trailer, there wasn’t much more of Darth Malgus that was made public before he became the focus on most people’s minds.... (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker (Outland Peasant Disguise) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #01)
Should we be more thrilled that Hasbro added a retro action feature to Anakin Skywalker (Outland Peasant Disguise) or more irritated that they’ve actually included a retro action feature? To be or not to be, that is always the question it seems.... (read the full review)

Supreme Chancellor Palpatine - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #39)
What Star Wars toy line would be complete without an interpretation of Palpatine? He plays things very close to the vest in Episode I and Episode II and sets up what will be a disastrous consequence for the Jedi who are dedicating their lives to protect the freedom of the Republic.... (read the full review)

Coleman Trebor (Battle Of Geonosis) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #24)
Coleman Trebor is one of the greatest action figures in the entire Star Wars “Saga” line. This is so for multiple reasons of which we’ll outline each and every one individually. The Star Wars “Saga” line approached Star Wars characters in completely different ways.... (read the full review)

Jar Jar Binks (Gungan Senator) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #24)
Jar Jar Binks haters got the shock of their life when they saw that he had been promoted to Senator of Naboo in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. But perhaps more importantly, if you do despise this Gungan creature, you should maybe focus on the fact that it was his motion in the senate to give Supreme Chancellor Palpatine the powers of an Emperor, albeit in a manipulated manner....
