Q and A of the Day: Day 2

What a great first response! Here is our next Q and A of the Day post. This column will be published daily, weekly, monthly, or just based on how many questions I get emailed – but no more than one a day. Feel free to send in your questions and I will put them in the queue. Click through for Q and A of the Day: Day 2.

Q. Hi Paul. Do you think Hasbro will continue their Vintage 2 packs that are generally exclusive to K-Mart? Have these sets been successful? I think that this would be a great way to give us some more cantina aliens & Jabba's palace denizens. Imagine a Duros two pack with a table included. Or a spaceman two pack with an updated Boshek and the other Spaceman seen with his helmet on! That way we could get some of these lesser known aliens that we all want to fill in our Cantina & Jabba's Palace scenes. Besides several of the earlier figures are in need of updates now: Duros, Yakface, Squidhead, Muftak & Kabe, and more. What are your thoughts on us eventually seeing some of these figures updated along with new ones? Thanks and keep up the great work. (Kevin L – echo1126)

A: Yes, Hasbro does have more two-packs in sets similar in style to The Vintage Collection Special Action Figure Sets that were released at Kmart while The Vintage Collection was an active basic figure assortment. So far the Ewok Assault Catapult with two Ewoks is coming. And then there will also be TWO different sets of the Imperial Scanning Crew two-packs. What's so special about one of the Imperial Scanning Crew set is that it comes with the long-awaited 2009 Legacy Collection Imperial Scanning Crew (BD32) figure that hardcore collectors have waited a "lifetime" for until now. The sets looks fantastic in general, but Hasbro changed the deco on the "dalmation patterned" Ewok and made it look quite boring-looking now. Also, we're not sure if many collectors are eager about a re-release of the first Imperial Scanning Crew action figure and the same accessory (yawn).

I have personally spoken to Hasbro reps about some of the exact figure choices you mention. Hasbro has told me that characters like Yak Face, Tessek and Ree-Yees will not be released until The Vintage Collection returns. I personally feel that Hasbro is running out of time for any of us to see another run of TVC before the Sequel Trilogy, so they're either going to surprise us altogether, or just not release them for the forseeable future. I do agree with you that Hasbro needs to devote even more attention to the Star Wars aliens from Episode IV and Episode VI. To be fair, they have done a great job with this. The Vintage Collection brought us a ton of these characters, but it seems that many of us want a whole lot more, plus updates to older sculpts of our favorite characters. (I know that I even want to see super-articulated updates to Elom and Tanus Spijek.) I would also love to see BoShek get redone. Lord knows Hasbro has enought X-wing pilot sculpts to make a fabulous update to this character, but if there's a figure that was a one-time chance to purchase, it has to be that one. I love him, but I can't see him getting updated.

If Hasbro has blown smoke up all of our butts by claiming we will indeed see TVC again, then I agree, the Kmart two-packs would be a great way to get out Jabba's Palace aliens and Cantina denizens (after I give them a piece of my mind of course). I gotta say getting TVC vehicles is wonderful, but it's frustrating not getting a TVC Biggs Darklighter to accompany my Toys R Us TVC X-wing Fighter.

Let's see what transpires next. If we don't get a crap-load of information on what 2014 will bring us at Toy Fair in February, I will be a very disappointed collector.
