Additional Store Report Info And Scale Issue Tackled

Avid JTA reader Bruno excitedly gives us additional store reports, but he also addresses the issue of scale in the six-inch line as well. Click through and see how you feel about his assessment.

second report:

Hi Paul,

I thought i would drop a collecting update to you.

I went back to the local stores since it is pay day. I got my Maul and my R2 at Wal-Mart. Same price as i had mentioned last time, 22.92$

But i was missing a Luke Skywalker. The Gf was gracious enough to go to the Toys R us in the same mall and she found a Luke and Sandtrooper that were there. However Toys R us has jacked up Canadian prices. They are selling them for 24.99$ compared to 22.92$ at Wal-Mart which is a shame. But a man got to do what a man’s got to do. She bought me the Luke and sandtrooper so now i have 2 sandtroopers and a complete wave 1 set. I plan on getting more of them since they are so awesome.

On to the next point. I think i have finally figured out the “out of scale “ mystery of the 6 inch R2-D2. A mystery that Hasbro never clarified and that has baffled a lot of people until now...

In the original vintage line Kenner had him also out of scale, very similar to what Hasbro has done now. So much in fact that i think that they emulated the size of the original line and did not go for movie scale accuracy. How i came to that conclusion. I was just looking at a vintage R2 that was besides a vintage Bespin Luke that i have on display on my desk at work and it hit me straight in the face. There it was. I never noticed that the original R2 was also out of scale because i looked at them as older toys. But with the new 6 inch line Hasbro said they would be more accurate in the details but i guess the decision was made to keep him out of scale to reflect the size that started it all. It is more apparent that it is out of scale than the smaller toys because of the accuracy perception we get form the 6 inch toys. I also believe that the smaller was used to accommodate possible future vehicles. Imagine an x-wing for the 6 inch figures... Anyways that’s my Theory about why he is that way. as i said Hasbro never really gave a clear answer on this ( as far as i know ) so i think that must be it.
R2 in himself is pretty darn good looking if you ask me. I did not open any of what i got today because i collect packaged toys. What i may end up doing is keeping my packs sealed and hunt for loose figures on Ebay. I am sure that some people are bound to get rid of their loose figure fairly dirt cheap down the road since i expect this to be massed produced. However that being said people seem to eat them up more than any of the other toys. My GF got the last 2 at both Wal-Mart and toy’s R us and i know that Wal-Mart had 2 boxes so the 8 figures sold out. It was pure golden luck that I got exactly what i wanted at Toy’s R us, Luke and sandtrooper.

Thats it for now. We also have the other toys that i plan on getting when there is a fire sale.

cheers!
