Research Droids Reviews: August 29, 2012 – September 11, 2012

Ewok Pack - SW [TPM 3D] - Exclusive
As we collect our thoughts to rave about what may go down as one of the finest Hasbro exclusives to date, we’re still in disbelief that Hasbro had the effrontery to release a multipack that contains…. wait for it…. five Ewoks.... (read the full review)

Yavin Pilot Pack - SW [TPM 3D] - Exclusive
It seems that there is no end in sight for Hasbro to develop action figures based on pilot from the Battle of Yavin. Obviously that is quite an exaggeration because the list of Rebel pilots is finite. It’s just that Hasbro finds a new one to release.... (read the full review)

Super Battle Droid - TLC - Saga Legends (SL 10)
Did you know that this Super Battle Droid is a new figure? Well, perhaps we should define “new” a little bit more before getting you too worked up. There are a few things that collectors need to be mindful of when carefully considering the next Star Wars action figure for their collections.... (read the full review)

ARC Trooper Commander - TLC - Saga Legends (SL 23)
Hasbro has made so many red colored ARC Troopers in 3.75” scale over the years that it’s getting harder and harder to get worked up over them. Are they all Captain Fordo? Are they all generic red ARC Troopers? Does it matter either way? Probably it doesn’t.... (read the full review)

BARC Trooper - TLC - Saga Legends (SL 18)
Another excellent choice has been determined for The Legacy Collection Saga Legends line. 2008 is all about The Clone Wars television show, so the purpose of the realistic lines was to act in support of the multimedia event. And that’s what Hasbro did.... (read the full review)

Plo Koon - TLC - Saga Legends (SL 9)
When the Revenge Of The Sith toy line was getting prepared for release, Hasbro took some shortcuts on some of the figures. Whether the shortcuts were intentional or inadvertent, figures like Plo Koon came up a bit lackluster and its authenticity just wasn’t perfect.... (read the full review)

Luke Skywalker - TLC - Saga Legends (SL 22)
Hasbro announced that the vintage-styled Kenner action figures would be making a return in The Saga Collection during Toy Fair 2006. And the five figures announced were eagerly anticipated by collectors.... (read the full review)

Emperor Palpatine/Commander Thire - TAC - Order 66 (1 of 6)
When collectors started seeing early samples of the Order 66 sets leak via photos on Star Wars fan sites, many of us didn’t know how to react. We probably expected these two-packs to be screen accurate representations of characters that actually appeared in Revenge Of The Sith.... (read the full review)

Mace Windu/Galactic Marine - TAC - Order 66 (2 of 6)
Why is everything that is remotely related to Mace Windu purple? Samuel L. Jackson must be one special person because all he asked for was to carry a purple lightsaber and everything since then has become purple too. His clone battalion, his Jedi starfighter and even his astromech droid are one form of purple of another.... (read the full review)

Darth Vader/Commander Bow - TAC - Order 66 (3 of 6)
When exclusives hang around in the Expanded Universe territories, there are many movie-focused collectors that show little to no interest in them, just because of their own personal collecting focus. With so many products out in the Hasbro Star Wars line, all of us could use a dose of organization and concentrate on the things we love the most, so no criticism there.... (read the full review)

Obi-Wan Kenobi/AT-RT Driver - TAC - Order 66 (4 of 6)
A big portion of the final moments of the Clone Wars took place on Utapau in Revenge Of The Sith. That is the planet where Star Wars fans were introduced to the 212th Attack Battalion, led by Clone Commander Cody. So when it came time for Hasbro to develop the popular Order 66 TARGET exclusive sets, Utapau was a natural decision on which to base a two-pack.... (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker/Airborne Trooper - TAC - Order 66 (5 of 6)
Well, here is a unique take on the assault of the Jedi Temple that Darth Vader (formerly Anakin Skywalker) brought upon the Jedi Order in Revenge Of The Sith. Based on this heart wrenching scene in Episode III, Hasbro takes some creative license and develops their own interpretation of what may have transpired just off screen with the Anakin Skywalker/Airborne Trooper (5 of 6) Order 66 TARGET exclusive.... (read the full review)

Yoda/Kashyyyk Trooper - TAC - Order 66 (6 of 6)
If there is a set to army build in TARGET’s very cool Order 66 line, it would have to be the Yoda/Kashyyyk Trooper two-pack. Loosely based on the design of the clones in the 41st Elite Corps, the Kashyyyk Trooper in this set is a very striking and interesting clone trooper.... (read the full review)

Shadow Troopers - TAC - Exclusive
Shadow “anything” became the focal point for many collectors in the 2005-2008 collecting era. The rage of any “black” trooper was key and collections like The Saga Collection and the 30 (77-07) lines were consistently delivering to collectors in one form or another, an action figure wearing black armor....
