Nick May Responds To Your 200+ Comments Regarding His Essay!!!

Posted by Paul | June 19, 2012 at 09:02 PM ET

Jedi Temple Archives posted probably what will go down in history as one of our most controversial essays to date "Why The Phantom Menace Wave Ruined TVC". But now it's time for author Nick May, owner of SongofSalmon.com to reply to your 200+ comments. Click through to see how he responded....

Dear JTA and Readers,

Usually, I wouldn't dare write a reply to a post of my own which received such negative review, but I feel I owe an apology to a good deal of you.

First of all, let me say, Wow! 215+ replies! Thank you for the reception (even if you all do hate me by now)! To the MGMT of JTA, thank you for doing your very best to defend the argument haha.

I honestly honestly honestly never anticipated such a pro-Phantom Menace response. I feel as if I've been living in another universe; the way I've seldom ever come across true fans of the film. I suppose that's how circles work. It's definitely both enlightening and refreshing to see.

I, too find the film "entertaining", and I do own it :) but I have the hardest time agreeing that they manage to strike the same chord as the older films. The ones that started it all. The ones that started the toys. I'm sad to see that my main point was overlooked by so many: the point being that because The Phantom Menace is disliked by so many (and you have to give me that, because you all wouldn't be so passionate about the matter if you hadn't had to defend the film before), that dislike undoubtedly plays a role in the wave's less than positive reception (why the dislikers failed to show up on this forum is beyond me, but I stand resolute). Overproduction plays a bigger role. I do agree with that.

What I'd like to apologize for is generalizing. I made a broad assumption that I should have never made, and I would have never dreamt of making had I known there was such a large community of Episode I lovers. I am truly baffled. I also need to apologize for apparently calling you all "Lucasphiles" and "Ignorant Children". My use of the word "Ignorant" here was in an attempt to convey a sense of naivety amongst younger audiences who didn't grow up in a pre-Jar-Jar world.

I liked what one reader said; that one thing we can all agree on is that we are in this mess together, eagerly awaiting the day when the pegs will be bountiful again.

With Great Humility and Apologies,

Nick May
