Research Droids Reviews: May 16, 2012 – May 22, 2012

Royal Guard [Senate Guard] - ROTS - Basic (III 23)
One thing that always happens often from one Star Wars film to the next is that a character’s outfit is often at risk for changing. Heck, even some character’s facial likenesses like Kit Fisto’s even can change. This succession and evolution is all part of the process so George Lucas can reach the most definitive vision of the films (through his eyes).... (read the full review)

Royal Guard - ROTS - Basic (III 23)
It’s no secret that Star Wars fans like to see things come full circle in the Star Wars films. While a film like Episode I broke new ground for fans, George Lucas was courteous and included the occasional background characters that were of the same species we saw in the Original Trilogy. The dots really started to get connected in full swing by the third Prequel Trilogy film and Revenge Of The Sith contained many nods to Original Trilogy characters.... (read the full review)

AT-RT Driver - ROTS - Basic (III 54)
The artists and creators of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith pulled out all the stops with all of the various clone designs they made. Some styles were more aggressive than others, but if you own any “making of” book of this film, you know that the various clone concept art was nearly overwhelming.... (read the full review)

Utapaun Warrior - ROTS - Basic (III 53)
Just like the various clones concepts that were brainstormed during the making of Episode III, native alien species also don't get their originally intended day in the sun either. This is what happened to the Pau'an warriors. They were originally inteneded to be part of a huge battle sequence in Revenge Of The Sith, yet they were relegated to very, very background characters barely seen in the final version of the film.... Republic Commando Boss - SW [TPM 3D] - The Clone Wars (CW11)
Even if you’re only a casual observer of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, it’s a good bet you’re already well versed in the Republic Commando Delta Squad. These “super” clones (for lack of a better word at the moment) fought in the height of the Clone Wars. And now Dave Filoni has added them to his multimedia event The Clone Wars. In true Hasbro fashion, they’re slow as molasses and seemingly releasing them one by one in the current lineup.... (read the full review)

Captain Rex - SW [TPM 3D] - The Clone Wars (CW13)
Boy oh boy. What is happening to our action figures Hasbro? With less than two dozen figures based on The Clone Wars television show each product year, it seems that the basic figure line should be knocking it out of the part. Instead, fabulous sculpts are being compromised due to their lack of articulation and it’s really putting a bad taste in collectors’ mouths. The loss of vision for The Clone Wars line couldn’t come at a worse time.... (read the full review)

Obi-Wan Kenobi - SW [TPM 3D] - The Clone Wars (CW12)
The 2012 The Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi figure is ironic. We often don’t use words like that to describe action figures, but we can’t honestly think of a better word that applies here. An updated Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure may not be on the top of everyone's wish list, but usually when Hasbro makes an update to an unexpected character, the results are typically impressive. But that's not exactly what happened here.... (read the full review)
