Research Droids Reviews: April 18, 2012 – April 24, 2012

Queen Amidala - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH17)
Is it better to receive a subpar action figure that could pass for a decent enough update or wait indefinitely until Hasbro decides to give us an all-new and definitive version of that Star Wars character? You’d think that would be an easy enough question for us to answer, yet we find it difficult to do so.... (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH14)
Where do we begin? It’s not like the all-new Movie Heroes Anakin Skywalker is a terrible figure. It’s not. But the approach for this version by Hasbro isn’t that much different now than it was during the Episode I/Power Of The Jedi toy lines which ran between 1999 and 2002.... (read the full review)

Darth Maul - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH15)
The 2012 Movie Heroes line is stuck in a time warp in many ways. We’re not only reliving Episode I, we’re also reliving the reduced articulation, the chronically repetitive character selection and weak action features of the figures we saw at retail from over a decade ago. There is no denying that the sculpts are significantly improved.... (read the full review)

Darth Vader - TVC - Basic (VC93)
We contemplated starting off this review with a few negative points just to get them out of the way. The reason is we like to lay it all down for our readers on the nitty-gritty of any action figure. You should know why a figure rocks, but you shold also know when a few things need some fine tuning. Darth Vader isn’t wholly perfect, but the imperfections just aren’t enough for us to ding Darth Vader on its score.... (read the full review)

Qui-Gon Jinn- SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH18)
The Movie Heroes line is disappointing at an exponential level. You already know we don’t like it, so we’ll try to make this review more productive and not so much a whining session. To set the record straight, we did our best to look for the good in this line. Repacks are a must for any Star Wars Hasbro line, but the repacks Hasbro chose for the Movie Heroes line are mind boggling.... (read the full review)

Imperial Navy Officer - TVC - Basic (VC94)
The vintage Kenner Death Squad Commander/Star Destroyer Commander has been the center of many debates in the collecting community for years. Has this figure been updated in the modern lineup yet? That answer is both yes and no depending upon who you ask. On the yes side of the debate stands Hasbro. With The Vintage Collection release of Imperial Navy Commander, it is their opinion that the 1979 vintage Kenner figure gets checked off in the modern line.... (read the full review)

Luke Skywalker (Hoth Outfit) - TVC - Basic (VC95)
They say you learn something new everyday. Trust us, that is a very true statement. When we started seeing packaged samples of The Vintage Collection’s Luke Skywalker (Hoth Outfit), we got all cocky and overconfident thinking that Hasbro made a mistake in naming the figure differently than how it appeared in the 1982 The Empire Strikes Back lineup....
