Research Droids Reviews: February 22, 2012 – February 28, 2012

Qui-Gon Jinn - SW [TPM 3D] - Discover The Force (8 of 12)
We understand the need for Hasbro to reuse some of their better sculpts for release after release to help round out the various lines, but at what point does it become taking advantage of collectors? The incessant repacking is becoming even too much for us top handle and we have been Hasbro’s staunchest defenders of this practice for years.... (read the full review)

Obi-Wan Kenobi - SW [TPM 3D] - Discover The Force (7 of 12)
Kyrie, eleison. It’s not like we can say “help us Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re our only hope” because he’s actually the problem. How many times are we going to see 2009’s LC Obi-Wan Kenobi (BD06) figure (no matter what configuration) released? (read the full review)

Shock Trooper - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH01)
The Movie Heroes line is definitely perplexing to many collectors. In a now almost infinite catalogue of great sculpts under Hasbro’s belt after years and years of new collections of action figures after another, Hasbro decides in 2012 to rerelease some from what we would call the “bottom of the barrel”. Who doesn’t love an awesome Shock Trooper? (read the full review)

Battle Droid [AOTC] - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH04)
OK folks, this one really stick in our craw. What a piece a junk! It’s hard to believe we went ape crazy over this Battle Droid sculpt during the 2007 TAC Saga Legends line. Now we don’t even want to look at them anymore. How Hasbro thinks it’s even remotely fair to now singly card these at $8.99 (and higher) for one inferiorly articulated Battle Droid when they packed 2 of the super-articulated variety in 2010’s SW [SOTDS] line is beyond our comprehension.... Republic V-19 Torrent Starfighter - TVC - Vehicles
We’re not so sure why we’re so particularly enamored with the repacked The Vintage Collection vehicles that were released for the opening of the 2012 line. Perhaps we’ve been jaded by the new main line products this year since it’s one big train wreck..... (read the full review)

Sith Infiltrator - SW [TPM 3D] - Vehicles
1999 may have been the year for The Phantom Menace, but Hasbro made us wait 8 years before they decided to produce Darth Maul’s signature vehicle. A long time desired vehicles, it finally came in 2007’s 30 (77-07) line – an appropriate release time to generically celebrate 30 years of Star Wars – but sadly the vehicle did not meet expectations since it was much too small when compared to its actually size.... (read the full review)

AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) - TVC - Vehicles
There are just some collectors out there who will never warm up to Prequel Trilogy stuff getting packaged in The Vintage Collection. To them we respect their opinion, but still would like to make it known that they’re truly missing out on some wonderful gems.... (read the full review)
