Toy Fair 2010 - Starfighter Vehicles

Posted by Nick | February 14, 2010 at 02:01 AM ET

Hasbro may have unveiled a couple of the new starfighter vehicles at the UK Toy Fair, but there were some significant developments that they kept in reserve for the NY International Toy Fair. Do you want to know more?

On hand in the Hasbro showroom were some all new vehicles, some repaints and also a reissue. And there are significant things to report about all of them. You can check out images of all of the starfighter vehicles in JTA's extensive gallery of starfighter vehicle photos.

First off, the packaging! All vehicles in the starfighter vehicle assortment will be offered in the new SHADOW OF THE DARK SIDE packaging scheme, whether it's a Clone Wars vehicle or if it comes from the original trilogy or the prequels. Clone Wars vehicles will feature the CLONE WARS brand on the package, while vehicles from other entertainment will not.

Packaging for three particular vehicles will be very distinct compared to the rest of the vehicle line. Notably, the AT-AT will be offered in limited quantities in a VINTAGE COLLECTION box exclusively at Toys R Us stores. This box will be a modern recreation of the Kenner vintage AT-AT package with the modern toy in the photography.

In addition, Hasbro has stated that TWO other vehicles that were originally offered in Kenner vintage packaging will also be offered in exclusive, vintage style packaging. Hasbro revealed that one of those two vehicles was revealed at today's Toy Fair presentation, with another yet to be revealed. Hasbro would not confirm if this vehicle would be either the Cloud Car or the Snowspeeder, both of which were originally released in Kenner's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK vehicle line. They would also not confirm the retail partner that will be offering this exclusive packaging at this time.

LUKE SKYWALKER'S SNOWSPEEDER - In stores Aug. '10
The new snowspeeder was first announced in a September 2008 Q&A session with JTA , and the staff here has been eagerly awaiting it ever since. This new version is scaled much more like the vehicle in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, which interestingly enough is actually SMALLER than the vintage toy that has been the basis for several modern era reissues. The new mold also features projectile firing cannons, stabilizer flaps and two interchangeable harpoon guns. One harpoon gun is movie accurate and the other features a firing tow cable for play with your AT-AT walker.

BESPIN CLOUD CAR - In stores Aug. '10
Collectors have been faced with an almost endless series of statements from Hasbro over the past few years saying that the Cloud Car did not present an aggressive enough profile for the starfighter vehicle line. Well, Hasbro's design team remedied that! They've festooned the new Bespin Cloud Car with a number of firing weapons that deploy from concealed positions. Additionally, each pod features an opening engine compartment. And then there's something that your vintage Cloud Car won't do: split into two vehicles! The new Bespin Cloud Car seperates mid-boom to become two independent Cloud Car vehicles. And in the interest of offering a crewman to man this new vehicle there is the new VINTAGE COLLECTION Cloud Car Pilot figure which will be available beginning this August

CLONE SWAMP SPEEDER - In stores Aug. '10
First seen in the jungles of Felucia and on the beaches of Kashyyyk, the Clone Swamp Speeder came to light in REVENGE OF THE SITH. But with it being utilized exclusively by Clone Troops, it seemed only natural to Hasbro offer this vehicle under the CLONE WARS banner.

CLONE INTERCEPTOR TANK - In stores Aug. '10
This vehicle was first introduced in the CLONE WARS RED vehicle line as the Republic Fighter Tank. But it has been repainted in a blue and white paint scheme for the new SOTDS line.

PLO KOON'S DELTA II JEDI STARFIGHTER - Availability tbd
The Delta II Jedi Starfighter was originally offered in Obi-Wan Kenobi's paint scheme. And since that time it has been repainted in Anakin Skywalker deco and also in Ahsoka Tano's paint scheme. This version presents Plo Koon's Jedi starfighter as seen in the Clone Wars episode "Shadow of Malevolence".

CORPORATE ALLIANCE TANK DROID - Availability tbd
Introduced this past summer at San Diego Comic Con, it seems quite clear that the Tank Droid did not get a particularly long run at retail during the course of the CLONE WARS RED line. As such, Hasbro will be reissuing the Tank Droid in the SOTDS packaging. Expect it early in the line since it has been on the market for several months, but Hasbro did not specify a precise release date for it at Toy Fair.
