Hasbro's Saga Legends line is set to relaunch with the other basic figure lines this coming August. What might Hasbro have in store for this line?
Hasbro's Saga Legends line will feature the same package design that will launch with the new line look of Clone Wars. It's being referred to by Hasbro as the SHADOW OF THE DARK SIDE look, and it unifies the Saga Legends, Clone Wars, Battle Pack and Vehicle lines. The Saga Legends line is designed to get key versions of core characters into the mix without bogging down a collector focused line like the VINTAGE COLLECTION.
Saga Legends and Clone Wars may share a common look, but they are differentiated by bold flashes at the top of the cardback. Clone Wars basic figures will feature a blue flash on the top of the card, while Saga Legends will have an orange flash across the top of the card. These flashes are considerably more bold than what collectors are currently seeing at retail where it may be somewhat difficult to differentiate between the Clone Wars, Saga Legends and the Droid Factory basic figure lines.
Hasbro cited research among collectors and Star Wars collecting websites in selecting some of the characters that would be offered in the new Saga Legends line. Only a few figures were on hand, but they seem to represent some of Hasbro's better work in the past few years. In 2010 the Saga Legends line will also present an avenue by which Hasbro can offer the AT-AT Driver again, as it's re-release will work in conjunction with the release of the new Super Deluxe AT-AT. Figures that seem destined for Saga Legends re-release appear to include:
Darth Maul (from the Episode I Sith Speeder)
AT-AT Driver ( BD49 from the TLC RED line)
SL-12 - Obi-Wan Kenobi ( 08-01 from the 30AC line)
