Target DPCIs Reveal New Developments

Posted by Nick | January 05, 2010 at 08:10 PM ET

A couple of days ago the fine folks over at Bantha Skull revealed some new information about some Target DPCI numbers. We've conducted our own investigative report and there are some surprising revelations.

In their article Bantha Skull revealed a number of new Target DPCI numbers. For those not familiar with what a DPCI number is, this is the stock number that Target stores use to identify items in their inventory. And as a way to assist customers, Target stores are equipped with price scanners by which a customer can manually enter a DCPI number to see if a certain item is in stock. Entering that number will also provide one with a brief description of the item itself.

So what was revealed in the article in question? Here are the DPCI numbers and product descriptions:

BASIC FIGURES
087-06-1351 - 3.75 VINTAGE - $7.99
087-06-1335 - Saga Legends Basic - $7.99
087-06-1339 - CW Basic - $7.99
087-06-1343 - SW Transformers - $16.99
087-06-1401 - Galactic Heroes - $6.99
087-06-1527 - MEGABATTLER 10in FIG - $19.99

These DPCI numbers are different from those of the assortments that currently being offered at retail. JTA ran each of these DPCI numbers through the Target inventory system and was able to independently confirm that these numbers do in fact correspond with those descriptions. Most notable in the basic figure line is the 3.75 VINTAGE entry at the $7.99 price point. This is no doubt a basic figure offering. And the name corresponds with widespread rumors that the new look for the movie based basic figure line will revert to a design reminiscent of the classic Kenner black & silver cardback.

Also new and notable is the MEGABATTLER 10in FIG at the $19.99 price point. We may have already gotten a glimpse of one of these figures in this Sandtroopers posting. This assortment cleary seems aimed at a younger demo that is more interested in Clone Wars. The other DPCI numbers confirm that there will be new assortments of the Clone Wars, Saga Legends, Galactic Heroes and Transformers lines.

MULTIPACKS & VEHICLES
087-06-1345 - 3.75 Battle Pack - $24.99
087-06-1347 - CW Starfighter - $24.99
087-06-1402 - DLX Fig and vehicle - $16.99
087-06-1497 - HAILFIRE RC vehicle - $59.99
087-06-1503 - SUPER DLX VEHICLE - $99.99

Once again, JTA has independently confirmed that these DPCI numbers correspond with these descriptions. These DPCI numbers also reveal some changes at Target. Notably, that the 3.75" scale battle pack price will increase from the current price of $19.99 (prices may vary in some areas) to $24.99. There will also be a price increase in the starfighter vehicle assortment.

But there is very notable news in this product band. And that is the confirmation of the SUPER DLX VEHICLE at the $99.99 price point. There has been much speculation about what this vehicle may be, and that it could be a tie-in to Hasbro's celebration of the 30th Anniversary of STAR WARS EPISODE V - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Common conjecture has it that it may be a new, upscaled AT-AT Imperial walker. There has been no confirmation of that rumor at this time, but it may possibly be revealed at the time of the 2010 New York International Toy Fair. Also notable is the new HAILFIRE RC vehicle at the $59.99 price point. This will no doubt be larger than the Republic Gunship and Jedi Starfighter RC vehicles that are currently at retail (and at a significantly lower price).

ROLEPLAY
087-06-1478 - Elec Lightsaber - $19.99
087-06-1491 - Basic Lightsaber - $9.99
087-06-1605 - Electronic Blaster - $19.99
087-06-1606 - MANDALORIAN HELMET - $34.99
087-06-1622 - GREIVOUS LIGHTSABER - $34.99

JTA's reporting indicates that one of the DPCI numbers in the original Bantha Skull report may have been a typo. The DPCI number originally listed in that article for the MANDALORIAN HELMET was actually for an Electronic Blaster. And the correct DPCI number for the MANDALORIAN HELMET is listed above.

These are some exciting developments that were revealed by Bantha Skull's article, and JTA will continue to investigate all of these product listings over the coming weeks and months.
