Medicom RAH Clone Trooper - Cherry & Lemon Flavors

Posted by Paul | December 07, 2008 at 04:44 PM ET

Here is a quick review of the recently released StarWarsShop.com exclusive Clone Trooper Commander and general release Clone Trooper Captain from Medicom, currently available at Sideshow Collectibles. These awesome 1/6 scale representations of the Episode II phase I clone troopers are more than worthy additions to your collection. The attention to detail is magnificent and the armor is very fitted to the figure's body. Click through for additional photos and quick notes and impressions of these great collectibles.

Medicom has released two Clone Trooper Officers from Star Wars: Attack of The Clones this year. The now sold-out Clone Commander with yellow flashes was an exclusive at StarWarsShop.com. For a while, it was in stock then out of stock, but it looks like they are definitely all gone now. The Clone Captain with red flashes is a general market release and is still available at Sideshow Collectibles as well as many other fine online retailers.

Both figures utilize the body of the plain white Episode II Clone Trooper released earlier this year. It is very nostalgic of Medicom to release these as the first two officers. If you recall, Kay Bee Toys released both the captain and commander as their exclusives back in 2002, while the plain white clone trooper was available for general release. But what a difference when you compare the Hasbro product to Medicom. Actually, no comparison can be made! How far away are we from the lieutenant and sergeant? This collector hopes not too far away. I also cannot wait for Sideshow Collectibles to make the Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones clone trooper.

These Medicom figures are definitely underrated and often ignored and this is a shame. My only true criticism is that I have a preference for harder outside armor on top of the body glove. Sideshow Collectibles has taken this into consideration and acted with positive results. Instead of the soft PVC plastic used for these Medicom figures, they are using a harder AVS plastic. In all, it is still nice to see how successful Medicom's sculpts come out using this softer plastic. And I use "soft" lightly, it just has some pliability, while Sideshow's Obi-Wan Kenobi In Clone Trooper Armor has none.

The articulation on these figures is super, but movement is limited because of how the armor pieces sit next to each other. The body glove is very moveable. Each clone trooper officer comes with two interchangeable hands and a DC-15 blaster pistol. It was reported somewhere online that the Clone Trooper Captain did not come with a weapon (and I believe pictures exist of the figure with out the gun on retailer websites), but this is not the case. You will get a weapon with both of these figures.

These figures come highly recommended by me. I suggest picking up the Clone Captain while it is still available at Sideshow Collectibles. The price point is definitely high, but these are extremely limited collectibles. Last I read, each figure is only 1000 pieces. And once they disappear, it is very hard to track them down afterwards. After all, I am still looking for an Episode III Darth Vader! Enjoy the photos!
