Why Collectors Can Soon Be Blamed For Worsening Distribution Problems

Posted by Paul | September 24, 2016 at 08:55 PM ET

There are more "store reports" of readers finding and purchasing Rogue One and The Black Series products than we can keep up with.... and there are even crazier and more ridiculous purchases collectors are bragging about on social media. May we offer some advice? (more....)

We get it. Our world has never been more reliant on instant gratification than right now. Many of our actions anymore are selfish. And we're all guilty of it. I believe social media is the biggest offender of why this is so. People don't even read half our posts anymore unless there is a colorful picture in the middle of it and then ask us questions where the answers to their questions are clearly stated in those posts. I digress. This isn't meant to insult anyone. And it's not meant to judge. But all of you who are coercing/influencing store managers to sell you "DO NOT SELL" products that you really shouldn't be able to buy until September 30th and/or using an old Finn or Zuvio figure to score the latest The Black Series figures or old TFA figures to score Rogue One 3.75" figures; you're all going to be culpable/responsible for the utter bottle-necking of the Star Wars toy line by the end of October. If this were just a few instances it wouldn't be an issue. But this is happening at an alarming rate. You're essentially screwing up the many stores' inventory you're visiting by doing what you're doing. All of you that have the TBS6 figures now from stores that shouldn't have sold them to you, those same stores' inventory show that those figures are still there. These nonexistent figures will obviously never sell showing that there is no need to reorder them which in turn will prevent future waves from coming into that store.

Now all of this mess surely paints a good picture of why we shouldn't have street dates anymore. Star Wars collectors are the most impatient bunch. But we'd encourage you to all to just hold off and try not to be part of the problem. Doing what you're doing right now is killing all of our chances of seeing future waves at retail. These figures in your possession were NEVER scanned and computer systems will NOT replenish what is "hasn't" scanned. Be patient and do the right thing (if it isn't too late already.) It's always fun to be "the first" to find new Star Wars products, but this isn't the way to do it. If you found them legitimately, then lucky you. But we're talking to those buying them via "back door" methods.
