Hasbro: you have a REAL problem on your hands. The opportunity to buy knock off Star Wars figures on eBay certainly is one thing. They're usually adult collectors looking to get a unique or obscure item. But when these knock-offs make their way to retailer Toys R Us thanks to an unscrupulous collector who returned it, you have to admit that you need to do more about this. Who knows what chemicals make these figures and who knows what quality control and safety standards and measures are taken (none) before these bootleg figures enter homes. China is taking complete advantage of your license, and it's all because you haven't produced enough to flood the market yourselves. JTA reader CommanderJoe276 bought one of these bootleg Darth Maul TBS6 figures at his local Toys R Us, yes I said Toys R Us, where the store manager swore up and down that it was the real deal. Perhaps PR should put out a memo that bootlegs are entering legitimate retail outlets now. It would be a travesty if one of these figures makes a kid sick or something even worse.
Hey JTA,
It's been a while since I've written in but I had quite a surprise today. I went to TRU and they had a bootleg TBS 6" Darth Maul for $19.99. I also had a $5 coupon so it came to $15. On the bar code it says Sandtrooper, so I took it to customer service and they ran the UPC through their system and they said that it was indeed a genuine Darth Maul figure. He explained to me that this was a problem with some of the first batches of wave 1 that they had received years ago and now they're trying to clear them out. Of course, I am skeptical, but as far as the TRU employee was concerned, it is legit.

Editor's Note: I am not sure if I can think of anything more egregious than this.
